At some point in life you're going to have to admit to yourself that your opinion isn't fact and that it's possible to disagree with you without being wrong. Also, assuming that everyone who disagrees with you is a childish idiot is a pretty awful way to come across. I'm left wondering when you should take your own advice and stop acting like a high schooler. Until then, I'm forever done talking to you. Have a good day. I'll try to be as transparent as I can so you understand how off-based your responses were. Check out the difference in how the following two people say they dislike a band, and I'll exaggerate a tiny bit to make this clear. Person #1 - I don't like NIN. Person #2 - I don't care if they are handing out $10 bills, and Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are giving handos, and all living members of the Beattles, the Who, Nirvana, and N'Sync join NIN on stage, I hate NIN's music, I'll never like it, don't even get to me try to like it, because I won't listen to you, and I don't care about live performances anyway, and you will never catch me there, and I just want to see Passion Pit again. I don't care if person #1 doesn't like NIN, I stated earlier I'm not a huge fan myself. I don't care if person #2 doesn't like NIN, but I'm still going to tell him he's a pompous little shit. It has nothing to do with NIN. I'm not a fan of how high school kids post. They aren't interesting although they think they are, they talk about themselves all the time, they make a lot of empty posts like "wow" and "no way," and they don't actually think about their posts, they just spout off random comments. I've had 1.500 posts to diagnose nick's style, and often he posts like a high school kid. There were a collection of nick posts arguing with Cysquatch which I found to be very immature, and he was spouting off insults without trying to make valid points. Then HG chimed in to back him up. It's positive reinforcement for an unwanted behavior. So I threw my hat in the ring, and told him I thought he was being juvenile. The further we got into the discussion, the more he acted like a high school kid. For example, a high school kid might say, "I hate NIN, always will," while someone with more maturity might say, "I don't like NIN, maybe I'll end up liking them years from now, but they aren't my thing." A high school kid might say, "Don't try to talk me into going to see NIN, because it won't work." Someone with more maturity might say, "so they put on a really cool visual show? Maybe I'll check it out for a bit to see what all the fuss is about. I don't want to regret missing it years from now." A high school kid (and HG in this example) might say, "Live performances don't mean anything, I want to sing along to songs I know." Someone with more maturity might be more willing to branch out and try new things, maybe get away from their comfort zone occasionally. There was no argument on my end. This wasn't me trying to be right, and name call people who don't agree with me. This was me making an observation that a regular is posting like a little kid, and telling him. If you think I'm an asshole, you can tell me. That's not name calling. That's also an observation. I sincerely hope nick's dream comes true, and one of the three headliners next year is a band he hates so he can get a better spot at a side stage, and I hope he gets the chance to curse my name and laugh about how angry he thinks I'll be that he is skipping a headliner. It sounds very high-school.

Or someone might say "I don't want to see them, but I wouldn't mind them headlining if there is someone else I like playing on another stage at that time." Oh wait... I wouldn't go to their show but I'm not opposed to their headliner spot if there's a decent act on Bigfoot

It's the body of work I'm responding to. It's always been that way.

DING DING DING - WE'VE GOT A WINNER! You're a Mod, this is a troll account. This is a troll account. Mods here delete Troll accounts. He has another account that he should use. I'm sure is an alright dude; I'm sure some of you fuckers enjoy his company. There is no reason to allow a troll account. If this troll account is allowed then every troll account should be allowed. Consider me a Troll account. Fuck "mods". I know that it's been established that you're on the right side of the joke this time, but for the record we don't generally ban troll accounts. We ban scalpers (and people who piss me off, but that's usually on the hush-hush). Hardly ever trolls.

I regret so bad the comments that I made about Menomena all that time ago. Not because they changed my mind (although they did), just... Never get too drunk and go see a band that you only kinda care about on a weeknight, is all I can say.
There are bands that you shouldn't miss. I give not a shit about the White Stripes, but fuck a bucket if I was going to miss Jack White at Sasquatch. Missing one of the most talented, successful, respected musicians in the world play on the Gorge stage so that you can go see some imbecilic DJ that you could see in a club in the town your mom lives in for ten dollars do whatever he does in a tent is just fucking stupid. Rustuuuu asked regarding a decision like that, does that make me misinformed? The answer is YES. Yes, it does. If you're happier doing it that way, then do what you're gonna do because nobody should ever REALLY have to do things in life that they don't want to do... That doesn't mean that you're not misinformed. You'll be missing something monolithic, something that will be remembered and spoken of and written about and emulated for years and years and years, in favor of a flimsy, passing style that will only be an embarrassing example of '10s music no more than five years from now.
I'd go see something that amused me more at this point over Nine Inch Nails, but that's because I've fucking seen them. In spite of the fact that I literally haven't listened to a single NIN album all the way through since Pretty Hate Machine. I can't stand their music, but if you're going to miss the opportunity to see them just once -- especially when that's where 75% of your ticket price went in the first place -- then basically you're just too young to know better.

BREAK IT DOWN: When Paul McCartney plays a festival, there are people at other stages watching, what, like fucking of Montreal or something. There are people at other stages when the single most important living figure in rock history is playing half a mile away. Your opinion of the Beatles doesn't mean a god damn thing when you're being that fucking ignorant of the culture that you are pretending to participate in.

I can't say I disagree with you at all Gramma, but I do have one thing to say. At the same time that Jack White played last year at Sasquatch, Wolfgang Gartner played this set described in an interview:
"Q: Could you tell us a bit more about your Sasquatch experience and what made it so unforgettable? A: And I still stay true to what I said, it really was the best gig I’ve ever played in my life, out of probably a thousand. It’s hard to describe. It all comes down to the crowd, the energy of the crowd, their reactions, what they react to, and how generally mental they went! I just have this very vivid memory of the entire crowd jumping up and down in unison to the beat, thousands of people, hands in the air, crowd surfers, girls on shoulders, everything you get in a really top notch festival atmosphere, but this one was a cut above the rest. There’s still an element of it that I can’t describe, a spiritual thing, but I did my best with the words in my limited lexicon. There were parts of it where I felt like I was outside my body. And I was completely sober."
Jack White is no doubt worth anyone's attention and his skills as a musician are under no question. But when something truly special is happening elsewhere, I don't see how you can argue that it's not ok to miss Jack White, or NIN, or whoever else, sometimes.
This was his original quote, for anyone interested. He tweeted it out the day after he played the festival. It made me feel good to be a devoted Sasquatch goer. “There’s this festival called Sasquatch out in the middle of Washington once a year. Last night I played it. This is a really bold statement but, imma go ahead and say this was the best gig I have ever played in my life, crowd-wise, vibe-wise, everything-wise. Thank you to everybody who was there who made it happen because I will never forget it as long as I live. This is the kind of night that makes me realize I would do this shit for free.”

I'm glad that Wolfgang Gartner had a blast at Sasquatch, but real talk? His description of that set sounds pretty much like every EDM set at Sasquatch. It was a nice night, good drugs were in abundance, people danced, they had fun. I've seen that quote a million times; I'll tell you this, that set didn't reach legendary status until after Wolfgang's stamp of approval started making the rounds.
It was a special experience for people -- I think that's fucking awesome -- but it was a fucking DJ. It was not a special performance, inasmuch as it was a performance at all. Just a good night for a party.

And that's where we fundamentally disagree. I've avoided talking about it before so I'll do the same now, but I really disagree that just because someone is playing a DJ set it automatically makes them less talented or deserving of praise than a band. It's so dismissive of a culture that deserves just as much respect as the things you like. People have different opinions on the subject and you make it clear you're on the side that you're on, and I don't really feel like arguing about it so I'm going to leave it at that.

BREAK IT DOWN AGAIN:
The Greatest Wolfgang Gartner Set of All Time is the proverbial "world's tallest midget" when Jack White is shredding so hard that he has to wipe blood off of his pick guard.

It's so dismissive of a culture that deserves just as much respect as the things you like. We can have this conversation again when rave culture has been around for one hundred years and has influenced virtually every aspect of art, media and society.

When I'm on my death bed and have time to reflect on the biggest regrets of my life, I hope the list will be short, but I can guaran-damn-tee that missing Jack White playing the Gorge will be on it.
Having said that, I would also like to say " Wolfgang who"?

As a guy who fucking loves to get down to the rock as well as the rave, let me just say that I would regret not having seen BOTH of those sets... and I did miss both of them, so fuck all of you!
Seriously though, as fucking talented as Jack White is on guitar, I could give literally zero shits about his output. Gartner is a very talented producer as well as a very talented DJ, but I could give literally zero shits about his output too. I still respect the hell out of both of them.
There absolutely is merit in a well crafted DJ set, whether you choose to admit that to yourself or not, and there most certainly is a shit ton of merit in an amazing rock show. Different Strokes y'alllllll....

So basically what you're saying, Gramma, is "you're wrong, your opinion is worthless, and you are unintelligent" to anyone who doesn't care much for rock music and prefers electronic music? The very notion of that is pretty insulting.
I need to stop talking on this thread. This type of inane argument about people's preferences is the type of stuff that is soooooo pointless to discuss on the internet.
