Oh yeah... almost forgot to mention this...
There is/was a jazz/fusion/avant-something group called HiM back in the late-90's/early-00's... I caught them live a couple of times - amazing stuff - kinda tortoisey/chicago, but stronger musicianship+jazz chops. I believe it was the drummer from June of '44 + some other dudes. There's a few recordings out there for the willing... because the emo-black mascara HIM should not be mentioned here again.

I don't think Sasquatch goers have an inferiority complex at all. It's a commonly known fact that Coachella is the biggest multi-genre music festival on the west coast, and we regard it as such. We all have different opinions about the festival itself, but speaking strictly about lineups, Coachella always has the biggest artists and a wide variety of those huge artists.
Also, I feel Sasquatch is overpriced and over-regulated too. It's a great venue and always a fantastic time, but I've been to smaller festivals for 1/3 the price and had more fun, simply because of how much less regulated it is and how lax all attendees and staff are about everything. Not to say I don't like Sasquatch, it still holds a special place in my heart, but it sure isn't perfect.

I'm definitely fine with never being reminded of HIM again.

I think the operative words there are "smaller festival"... which is part of my issue w/ the two weekend expansion. I guess I would rather Sasquatch not "go large"... because you're dead right - the bigger festivals are all over-priced & over-regulated - and the smaller ones can still hold some charm & be more chill on the authority/regulation tip.
Frankly, I don't think the large festivals have much choice regarding price & security, especially the ones that are located out in the hinterland w/ camping, etc. The legal liability (insurance) must be off the charts, and trucking-in all that infrastructure is not cheap.
But I gotta give Squatch it's props... of all the big festivals I've attended, I think Sasquatch does the best job w/ organization and infrastructure/facilities. I think the premium camping option w/ showers + thrones is very well done, and the transportation (+ walking) are reasonable and generally well-run. And I have a theory that the strong canadian presence at Squatch somehow keeps things more civil/polite that it might be otherwise... such nice polite folks, those canadians.
I dunno, there's just something about expanding this year that seems out-of-step when their target demographic is increasingly indebted and/or unemployed... maybe it's just me...

Haha I don't think HiM is the band you were thinking of Mikey...
As far as Coachella goes, I only brought it up because we end up missing out on a lot of the acts that play there because of timing. That's not me complaining that Coachella has a better lineup, I'm just saying that a lot of acts that would be great at Sasquatch don't come because they were just on the West Coast less than a month before.

Since Paradiso will most likely fall the last weekend of June, I feel that the summersquatch may have less big EDM names while Springsquatch could have some bigger names to balance that out. Just a random thought.

That could potentially affect booking for sure, but Paradiso doesn't claim enough artists to prevent summersquatch from getting good ones too. It will definitely limit the choices, but there's tons of other artists out there.

Sasquatch has phased out EDM headliners almost entirely since the advent of Paradiso. Which is, y'know. Awesome.

EDM is at a tipping point where almost anything Paradiso wants is absolute fucking garbage, and the people that enjoy it reflect that more and more every day. Bring on the "underground" bass music pls...

Sasquatch ended up booking some great live electronic acts this year. That is a great direction to take. They still ended up with Steve Aoki and Rusko though. I guess I can't bash Rusko too bad, but he is kind of the king of brostep.

Bring on the "underground" bass music pls... I've really been all about the techno and minimal for the past few months. I actually even considered going to Movement festival in Detroit instead of MaySquatch next year. Will that get me banned?

Hell no it won't. I'd love to go to Movement.

Zacks needs to bring in some Dirtybird artists while Paradiso reels in all of the e-tards.

Bring on more of the Talabots, SBTRKTs, and Disclosures of the world. The farther we get from Paradiso the better. There are countless great electronic folks out there who would fit in great at Sasquatch. And I'd totally love to see a Dirtybird thing going on. I'm so excited to see Claude and J Phlip next month.

She's opening for Claude on the upcoming tour! In Portland they are playing at Branx on Nov. 8. We saw her play before Claude at What The Festival this year too, and she's just so good. She's got a great talent for mixing and puts on a great show, like you would expect of a Dirtybird artist.

J.Phlip is the shit. It's hard to pull favorites from the dirtybird crew though. Justin Martin is probably at the top of my list. While Eats Everything is still under some other label umbrellas, he made my top 5 dj list based on hearing his recorded mixes alone.
I seriously thought about going to that Claude VonStroke show in Portland. I just took a job working Friday mornings until noon, so that makes it a little more difficult for travel, but makes it a little easier to pull off financially. Always a catch. I also figure since it is a headlining show they will be playing some longer sets. That would be awesome to hear a couple hour set from each of them.

At this point, it's pretty much an accepted fact that there will be at least one hip-hop headliner. My question is this: what if it's Eminem? What happens then?
