When I was in 4th grade a friend used the "C" word in the playground while we were trading hockey cards. I had never heard it before because I was raised by do-gooders who refused to let bad influences reach their children's vocabulary. This friend was raised on the wrong side of town--raised by a step dad who beat his mother and actively referred to his two pre-pubescent step-children as fuck-face and shit head. Like, for real -- " Why haven't you done the dishes SHIT HEAD...why don't you introduce your new friend Rusty to me FUCK FACE", he would yell.
When he said it, I didn't believe it was a word. Because,of course I was 10 fuckin' years old. I knew everything. End of story. So I told him he was wrong. I hadn't heard the word before, and there was no way on earth that it was a bad word--I knew them all, secretly of course, and I hadn't heard of it. Which meant the world had not heard it and he was making it up to sound cool.
So he bet me, he told me, "if it's not a real word, then say it in class...no one will care. If I'm making this word up then it shouldn't matter to say it in front of Mr. Tippie ( our 4th grade teacher)".
So I did. Well, I didn't say it. Instead , I wrote a note. During silent reading from 1:00 to 1:30, I passed a note to my friend that read, "CUNT, CUNT, CUNT", I passed it clear as day... I wanted to get caught, because I knew this made up word would mean nothing to this old teacher. I knew my friend was wrong.
I was wrong.
And I have not and will not say this word, to this day. In fact this is the first time I have typed it.
Don't say that word. There are so many better, more descriptive words. I know from reading your posts that you can and will do better than that.
...And although I don't have a relevant story for the "R" word, I'd say that should also be avoided. Again, other better descriptors are readily available.
Speaking of cunt...such a small part of our vocabulary in contemporary English is from old English...but cunt is one of those words. Chaucer, writing in Middle English, used the word cunt, and it's in the old English lexicon. So really it's a time-honored tradition.
