I doubt that anyone has seen all of these bands live, but collectively we have seen most of the bands. So who are your favorite live bands playing Sasquatch! 2008.
Here are mine:
Ghostland Observatory are amazing live, great energy from both the band and the crowd....
I know a lot of people disagree, but I think Death Cab for Cutie is one of the best live bands around, they put together great sets, with old songs, new songs and covers, great jam sessions and interactions with crowds. Their shows are much more upbeat than their recorded albums as well........
As for bands that are just really fun live, you haven't seen a show until you've seen the Flaming Lips, definitely entertaining, as well as the Presidents, very energetic funny, upbeat, even if you're not a big fan of either of these bands, fun to see live!
I'm really excited to see Grand Archives and Rodrigo Y Gabriela, has anyone seen these bands live? Were they good?

I have to disagree with DCFC being a good "live" band. I enjoy their music, but want to pull my teeth when I see them live. They never have any energy and I've seen them at least 5 times.
I agree that Ghostland is amazing. I also really love Jamie Liddell and Battles live show. I'm really excited to see the Flaming Lips again and mostly Beirut and Fleet Foxes who I hear have great live shows. Who knows, hopefully there will be some surprises.
And I almost forgot Yeasayer, MGMT and Vampire Weekend.

Yeah, I keep reading that people do not like DCFC live, it baffles me though. I've been following them since their first tour in 98' and have never been dissapointed with a live show, I always think they have tons of energy especially Nick Harmer and Chris Walla, but to each his own.......
I too am excited about Battles, though I have never seen them live, and Jamie Liddell is really cool! I remember liking him when he played a couple of years ago......

Saturday:
The National - excellent, surprisingly intense live show. The New Pornographers - caught a portion of their set at Coachella last year and they were awesome. Modest Mouse - they were good when I saw them but hear they're traditionally very hit or miss. It all depends on how drunk Isaac Brock decides to get.
Sunday:
Michael Franti and Spearhead - caught them at Bonnaroo; they do a mean Sesame Street cover.
(Rest of the Sunday bands I haven't seen, which is really exciting.)
Monday:
Rodrigo and Gabriella - incredible live show, they're two of the best guitar players around. The Mars Volta - wasn't too impressed when I saw them the first time; hoping I'll see something I didn't notice before. The Flaming Lips - not another band on the planet like these guys; if you haven't seen them yet, you're in for a treat.

In my opinion,
Best Performances:
The Flaming Lips (Lolla 06) - so much fun, and their music is cool to! Death Cab For Cutie - They are my all time favorite band, so I can't diss them. The New Pornographers - They're great only when Neko Case and Dan Bejar are on stage with them. M.I.A. - Didn't actually see her, but I heard her set while waiting for the Rapture to come on. It was tight. Tegan and Sara - Great show, they're so fucking funny!
Poor Performances:
Modest Mouse - I hate to say it, I love them to death, but they are just terrible live. I've seen them 3 times and was not impressed. The Mars Volta - Another band I love, but they need to learn to play for their fans and not for themselves during their live shows.
Bands I can't wait to see:
65daysofstatic battles the breeders the hives the cure r.e.m. flight of the conchords

Chowzzer, I'm glad there is another DCFC fan on the message board! They are my favorite band as well!
Modest Mouse is definitely hit or miss, I've seen them three times: one time, I thought they were amazing (Sasquatch! 2003), another time terrible (Deck the Hall Ball 2004) and most recently ok (Download 2007) so who knows.
I didn't think I would like the Mars Volta, but I have seen them twice and enjoyed them both times, but I can see why they wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

obviously being a Cure girl, I think that they are such a great live band. They don't talk tons, but they do a great job playing from all eras and they will literally play forever!! I went to one show in Cali and they did 4 encores.
REM is just fucking REM, awesome!!!
I have seen the Breeders, but it was ages ago.
I am so excited to see Tegan and Sara, I am a huge fan but everytime they come to Portland I can't afford a damn ticket, so I am glad to finally see them!!!
I am only going Sat and Sun and am sad to miss Mars Volta and Rod y Gab.

I've seen REM twice, Once in Vancouver when Thom Yorke came on stage and sang "It the end of the world........" It was the best concert I have ever been too. They will put on a good show, but they not sing all the songs you want to here. There catalogue is too big. But if they sing "Country Feedback" your in for a treat.
New Pornographers ( with Neko) are great
I've seen DCFC twice and they were better Than I thought they would be, because of all the stories I've heard on how bad they were live.
If you've never seen them live, You have to see Ghostland Observatory and Jamie Liddel.
Modest Mouse- I love their albums but I saw them live and they were really off, ( what's more Man Man opened up for them and blew them away)
I can't wait to see : The National Beirut Okkervil Flaming Lips Flight of the Conchords Battles The Little Ones ( I love there EP's )
and the Cure

Since the addition of Johnny Marr the modest mouse live sets are much tighter (granted I loved them live since the late 90's) and the surly banter from Isaac is always a good laugh.
The Flaming Lips live are unquestionably the "happiest" band in the world!!!!! You will be given a truly spectacular live "SHOW".
Built to Spill have escaped the "stand still and show no emotion" part of the live act and now really rock a live set.
Grand Archives is a really new project and going through the "terrible teens" part of the live sound. Give em' lot's of support as they will be pumping out the good shizzy on a regular basis very soon. Just look at the musical history of Matt Brooke and you know great things are to come.
The Cure................. (((((EPIC))))) live performances!!! Guaranteed tight quality show.
Sera Cahoone is another ex member of Carissa's Wierd (Matt from Grand Archives is the other involved in squatch this year) who is super talented and working out newer directions of music. Haven't seen her live yet but Should give an intimate feeling even with a silly size crowd.
OK, there's a start. The list just seems to go on and on and on.......

I'm happy to see that not everyone is bashing DCFC. I had listened to them a bit before going to Sasquatch in 2006 and wasn't all that crazy about seeing them live. And from what I had heard on the cd's I had listened to, I didn't expect much for a live show............BUT I was very surprised how much energy their live show had, and what a great performance they put on. Their live show totally won me over, and I have become a pretty big DCFC fan since then.
I am also really looking forward to seeing Modest Mouse there as well. I have just recently become a fan of them (ever since "We Were Dead Before.....") and love that last cd. I just saw them at a very small venue in Regina, Saskatchewan and was a little dissappointed actually. I think seeing them at the gorge will be a lot better, or at least I'm hoping so.

This will be my 8th time at a REM gig. I'm also a big cure fan although this will be my 2nd time seeing them.
The Kooks! I'm a brit so looking forward to them.I do hope the Decemberists are there, one of my favourite bands. The great thing about Sasquatch is always the ability to see (and dig) someone new. I was at the 06 Sasq...what a riot.
I emailed Zia today from the Dandy Warhols (name drop) they won't be there however look out for Zia in the crowd she's going!
MGMT canceled Pemberton today .. but as Pemberton MUST be having an impact on Sasquatch ticket sales I'd expect one (maybe two) big names to be added. This to boost ticket sales nearer the date.
Just my 2 cents worth.

bands I have seen PUSA- they are awesome live and usually have good encores DCFC- when I saw them it was lame and depressing not exciting from the crowd or the stage Blue Scholars- An incredible group, I have seen them live many times and would see them a hundred more times. Michael Franti & Spearhead- So good live, they will make the crowd go crazy. Ozomatli- I think they would normally be good live but when I saw them the sound was messed up and the main guy got in a fight with someone in the crowd... which thinking back would be interesting but I was pretty young. Dengue Fever- They were fun to watch and the crowd gets into it. Cancer Rising- They are good, the show isn't that crazy usually but still good.
Bands I want to see M.I.A. Ghostland -I have a feeling these bands will be just crazy dance parties. Flaming lips-I can't wait for this show I have heard its amazing. The Hives- Should be good, I have wanted to see them for years.
