Can folks give me an idea of what it's like when the festival's over? I have to work Tuesday morning in Seattle. Is it possible to leave after the headliners (i.e. The Postal Service)? Or should I leave earlier in the day? Is traffic out as bad as traffic in?

2 years ago I left at about 6:30am Tuesday morning. There was 0 traffic. If you're leaving early on Tuesday to get to Seattle for work, you probably won't have a traffic issue so much as a too tired / hungover issue.

Thanks, man. Would I have any issues getting out mid-day Monday if I wanted to?... and I'm assuming we're not so packed in there that we can't get our cars out, right?

You can always get your car out at any time during the weekend.

There will be some traffic from maybe 10pm on on Monday night, but probably nothing prohibitive. I'm confident you'll make it. Actually that's not true, I'm confident you'll make the right decision and call in sick on Tuesday and drop acid on Monday night.

In 2011 I left as soon as the festival finished. There was no traffic, but I was exhausted after the weekend so the drive was complete hell.
It was a lot better when I got some sleep last year and left early in the morning.

The amount of traffic you'd experience after the Postal Service finish up is directly related to how quickly you can get back to your campsite and hit the road. If you have everything packed up before you enter the festival on Monday, that'll give you an advantage over a lot of people leaving that night. Last year my friends and I packed up the tent trailer Monday morning so we were ready to go the instant we got back to our campsite, and experienced no traffic. I'd guess that around half of all attendees stay the night and leave Tuesday morning. There'll be virtually no traffic after about midnight Monday night, or if you chose to leave mid-day Monday I highly doubt there would be very many other people leaving at that time.

If you're leaving right after the show on Monday you should probably drive into the parking lot in the morning. You miss out on the fun walk to the venue in the morning but it'll be a lot quicker getting out that way.

That kind of planning ahead will get you a law degree, folks.

That's a pretty genius idea right there, provided you don't have a tent trailer like the one my friends and I have used the past few years. Not sure they'd have a place to park you in that situation.

Last year my friend and I packed everything up Monday afternoon before heading down to the venue, then we left right after Nero (one of the last sets). We didn't have too much trouble getting the car out, we asked one guy to move his car back like 6 inches in the afternoon because it looked a little tight. We drove to Seattle and didn't have any trouble with traffic, moreso with trying to not fall asleep at the wheel. Hit a McDicks on the way, met some other Sasquatchers who immediately pegged us based on the glowsticks in our hair, sunburns and random paint smears all over our legs. Drank some coffee, hit the road again and made it to Seattle alive.
