I'm planning on camping with my friends but they will be getting there thursday to set up camp while i'll won't be able to get there until friday afternoon.
would it be ok to park my car wherever they have me park it on friday, then trek over to my friends' campsite and camp with them? Or is it stupid to leave my car unattended like that?

I would park it, go find your friends and than move your car to where they are. We've done this a few years in a row and as long as your friends stake out a good chunk of space this shouldn't be a problem.
Advice for your friends: The secret is to park as far from the vehicle next to you as possible and when the attendants ask you to move closer play stupid... like mute and deaf. They will eventually leave you alone. Now get out of the car and start throwing your stuff down taking up the biggest amount of space possible. This way once you bring your car in there, it's just a matter of shifting a tent or shade structure to get you in.
If for some reason you have to leave your car somewhere else that's OK too. I would just suggest checking on it periodically, and that shit will get annoying.
