Hello, all. Long time reader, first time poster here. Yes, I know I'm a noob and I will make another post introducing myself somewhere and we can get all of the hazing out of the way there, please. For this post, a serious question: what is the big deal with Sigur Ros? I'm not putting them down or being condescending, I just honestly don't get it. I see everyone making a huge fuss over them and I've tried listening to some of there stuff, but I just can't get into it. Am I just listening to the wrong albums or what? Please help with good starter album recommendations and links to mind blowing live performances. For the record, I felt the same way about Radiohead at first because I made the mistake of starting with Kid A and Amnesiac before a friend played OK Computer for me. I'm really hoping this is kind of the same situation.

For me, Sigur Ros was an acquired taste that took several years to get into. There are others here that are a lot bigger fanatics than I am, but start with this video (watch the whole thing, it's worth it) and I'm sure others will chime in soon with more examples of their awesomeness. It's going to be a serious mind fuck getting to hear this at the most beautiful venue in the world.

Awesome! Thanks. Honestly, I almost stopped watching after the first 5 minutes or so, but then I re-read what you said about watching the whole thing, and I'm glad I did. I'm starting to think that maybe I just wasn't high enough the first few times I tried to listen to them. I kind of have a feeling that seeing them live is going to pull my brain out, put it through a blender, and pour it back into my skull. At least, I'm hoping that's what will happen. I'm going to need more pot...

If you see them you will be surprised and stoked that you didn't miss them...If you miss them you will be bummed when you have to listen to everyone who was there tell you about how great it was and that you missed out...
That is all I am willing to say...

What's great about them is the average Sasquatcher isn't going to know who they are and get completely fucking blown away, kind of like Massive Attack did to many in 2010. They'll be leaving the Gorge with thousands of new fans.

I started listening to Sigur Ros after the lineup announcement, and I think that has had a huge effect how quickly I got in to them. I turn it up really loud and imagine myself at Sasquatch getting my hair blown back by awesome.
Also, the word 'souly' is like half of the lyrics.

Does that mean you are going to fly on a lawnmower to Canada and get high with me?

I suggest you don't miss anything and watch all 90 minutes of Sigur Ros headlining at the Gorge.
Also turn it up really loud and get high.

Last night's Coachella set was very likely the most emotionally draining show of my entire life. Can't wait to do it all over again next month.
