The only reason I really give a shit about Macklemore, whereas I don't care about 99% of other rappers these days, is because he's local and has a good message in his songs. It isn't the typical "pimps n hoez" type of rap and he's very obvious about his love for Seattle. Some of his songs are just incredibly catchy too. I'm still not planning on missing any of Vampire Weekend, but I'll for sure be running down the hill after them to catch the last half of Macklemore. If you are trying to imply that 99% of rap is pimps and hoez then you need to listen to more rap. I don't really understand why being from Seattle makes him matter more to you. Good music is good music. Since I was able to catch about 30 minutes of VW at Coachella I'll probably be fine with splitting my time between them and MD. Vampire Weekend reminded me how fun they are at Coachella. That being said, I don't think I'll be able to enjoy their Sasquatch set as much as I enjoyed their Coachella set because there is no way I will find 20 feet of open space to do my interperative dance that I did at Coachella.

Have you guys seen Matthew Dear before? I love his albums but don't know if I will be able to miss any of VW to see him...unless he is just an unbelievable performer. I have seen Matthew Dear as a band. He played at Nectar (Seattle) and it was a really fucking epic show. That venue is tiny though. Also, I was under the influence of something...natural. It was triptastic and I danced the whole time. Keep in mind this was prior to Beams being released and that album was one of my favorites from last year. You can’t go wrong whatever you decide though. That is the beauty and the curse of Friday night.

The half hour of VW weekend I saw at Coachella did nothing to change my mind about them. Still don't care. They looked really bored on stage too, like they were just going through the motions. The new songs sounded nice though! Haha, I thought "Diane Young" was the best soung they played!
I'll be at Macklemore.

I think it'll depend on how close I can get for VW. If the crowd is ludicrously large (which is what I'm anticipating), then you'll find me in the dance tent.

If the crowd is as big as I'm expecting you'll probably end up in the dance tent regardless of what you decide.

Yeah I plan on seeing all of Youth Lagoon. If the crowd is just giant for Vampire Weekend I may get persuaded to the dance tent.

Seattle has had an under represented hip hop scene for over 10 years now and macklemore has finally broke out. He was booked as a headliner because he is the icon of seattle hip hop. This is also why people care about him even though his music is not very good. I listened to macklemore years ago and thought his music sucked and I still do, but the fact that some one other than a seattlite cares about a seattle hip hip artist is a big deal for me and so I will support him.

I'm still dumbfounded that the Vampire Weekend and Arctic Monkeys aren't switched around...-_-
I'm going to try make it to half of Vampire Weekend and half of Macklemore.

They are getting the "wolf parade" treatment...

I was pretty choked about the short Built to Spill set too. At least they're on the Sasquatch stage and don't conflict with anyone else, for me at least. As for the WP treatment... if only Snacks could make reparations by getting Krug/Moonface to come do a set with the Divine Fits, fuck by himself even, that would more than make it up for me haha. I know I'm dreaming but... do you understand what i'm pining for??

My memory of them from their last Sasquatch appearance is pretty fuzzy because I hadn't paid much attention to their music prior to it, and at the time they weren't one of my "must see" bands, but they had a giant crowd and everyone was very into it. I would have remembered if they had put on a performance like the Coachella one you're describing, because I would have left to go to another stage.

If the crowd is as big as I'm expecting you'll probably end up in the dance tent regardless of what you decide. Let's just put it this way, if they have the same size crowd that they had at Sasquatch 2010 then there's going to be a sea of people stretching all the way back to the rap stage. They've become much more popular in the last three years and are only up against Matthew Dear for the first half of their timeslot. There's going to probably be at least 20,000 people between Vampire Weekend and Matthew Dear, so the upper half of the Gorge grounds will be completely swamped no matter which one of them you choose to see.

Good music is good music. Seriously. It's not like good, meaningful rap music is hard to find. Atmosphere, Kanye, Jurassic 5, Mos Def, Brother Ali... Macklemore is just another rapper to me, and not a particularly good one IMO. Just my two cents. I'm sure it'll be a good show, but I'll be having fun at Matthew Dear.

Macklemore just broke a record by having his first two debut singles reach the top 2 spots on the charts.
