I completely agree, HG. I've been trying to come up with an elegant way to convey that sentiment since I first saw this thread. I like the idea expressed in thread, but the Holocaust is off limits in humor and should not be used for comedy porpoises.

I am torn between a general sense of decency and the sense that I get from the fact that everyone is all like BALLOCAUST LOL that I'd be pulling rank if I straight deleted this thread and told tj to try again. It is not appropriate. The apocalypse is something that we can joke about and employ for plays on words, whereas the Holocaust is essentially off-limits for pretty much any conversation we might ever need to have on this board. Someone help me out with this one. No delete required. Just change the title.

Alright, so we've got that Dr. Garbanzoured out. Next point of order: changing the title of this thread will solve part of the problem, but we'll still have two pages' worth of posts that retain the header RE: Beachballocaust. The majority of those posts are riffs on the original title of the thread anyway, so my question is this: will anyone be offended if this thread disappears and we start over again with something a little more tasteful?
I don't mean to seem reactionary (not at this particular moment, anyway), but this is a high-traffic time of year for the board and frankly I feel like this reflects poorly on us.

Sure - though I think the debate and acknowledgement of its insensitivity at least balances that.

Fair enough. I might even be able to find a workaround. Let me see what I can do.

I was going to poke fun by making a couple puns on other horrible tragedies, but the high traffic time of year argument has dissuaded me. I agree with the proposal to burn it down and start over, but only if we can get a few pages of bad (but less offensive) puns in right at the beginning.

I find cringe inducing jokes amusing, yeah, mostly due to the audacity of making such a joke to begin with. Doesn't mean I think the tragedy is funny but rather a person's ability to be so flippant about it. But I like a dark edge to my humor. Sue me.

Don't get me wrong: this would not be appropriate at any time of year. I deleted a couple posts and manually changed the headers on the ones that remain. We should be good now. tj, feel free to select any one of the more appropriate thread titles that have been suggested or come up with one on your own. You can change the thread title by clicking 'Modify Post' on the original post.

We painstakingly explained this to davers about eighteen months ago. I don't want to get into it again. Bottom line: you're not Trey Parker, you're just some kid. You have no established agenda, and making jokes for shock value just makes you look like an insensitive asshole. Now let's talk about beach balls.

There is a line and it can be crossed. Onto greater things, like inflatable balls.
