I KNEW the Presidents of the United States of America were going to make thier way back onto the line up. I don't know much of thier music, bet I bet they are a blast live! I know Yeasayer as well, but don't really know thier music. But they are billed higher the Ghostland Observatory... weird. Well, I hope this lessens the chance of a conflict of Battles with either Ghostland, The Hives or Rodrigo y Gabriela. If Battles conflicted with any of those... I would die

I just checked out the Newton Faulkner stuff:
Jack Johnson with better guitar skills and (if you can imagine) worse songs. I got through two songs, cringing the entire way. Gross.

Did anyone notice that they added the Morning Benders, Cancer Rising, Delta Spirit and Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground without an announcement? Go to the official website!

I'm really out of the loop. Out of all the bands playing, I've literally only heard of 10, 3 of which I'm actually a fan of.
I better discover some great music while there.

That is the best thing about Sasquatch! Last year I came away a huge fan of Ghostland Observatory, Spoon and the Long Winters, who I had heard of, but didn't know a lot about.
What I do to get pumped up for Sasquatch! is listen to at least three songs from each band that I do not know much about and if I really like the band I make a point to buy an album from the band. Check out the shared music thread on this , I have all of the myspace links posted on the Sasquatch! Blog which usually have 3 or 4 songs per band, I also have a lastfm player on the blog and it has songs from most bands (or will once I finish the playlist), the band's websites have music as well, sometimes I will have heard nearly an entire album from a band before even buying it. Itunes lets you listen to 30 seconds of songs as well. For more ways to hear bands playing Sasquatch! check out the shared music thread on this message board.
It is worth checking into all of the bands, inevitably I miss out on someone great each year last year it was Michael Franti and Manu Chao, but at least I know more about who to check out so that I don't sit through a band that I don't care for while a band that I might have really loved is playing on another stage..........In my opinion it is rare that there is a crappy band at Sasquatch! just ones you don't care for..........
One last thing, pay attention to the bands people are buzzing about, with things like "great live band" if you see a phrase like that over and over, even if you're not into their recorded stuff so much it is worth checking out. For instance, I definitely did not care for Ghostland Observatory until I saw them live. Now I have all their cds and love them. I think I will even make a thread about "great live Sasquatch! 2008" bands! Enjoy your discoveries!

^ those are great idea. Thanks!!!
Last year, I discovered Blow and Citizen Cope which I thought were great finds.
The difference though is that I had The Spree, Bjork, Arcade Fire, Beastie Boys, and Interpol. This year, REM, The Cure, and The Flaming Lips. I guess I just wish there were more "big name acts."

They may not be your thing but Modest Mouse, DCFC, Built to Spill, The Mars Volta, and the Hives all are bigger or atleast as big names as The Spree and Interpol. I think they did a great job of getting some big acts when compared to past years. There's at least 8 bands every day I would or have gone seen individually.

I've heard of Modest Mouse and Death Cab but they're more MTV The Hills filler music than a band I'd actually pay to hear. Never heard of the other two, and The Hives seemingly disappeared off the planet. I don't know, The Spree and Interpol both played the main stage last year. I wouldn't compare them to the bands you listed, even just based on popularity.

wow. I am not one to try and start an argument over the internet, but are you being serious? I notice your name.... does this mean you actually still live in London? That would make a lot more sense. In the PNW Modest Mouse and DCFC are two of the biggest names in indie music.
I would NEVER consider Modest Mouse to be filler music for the hills. DCFC could be, but that doesn't make them any less talented or popular.
What is this about the spree? Dont get me wrong the spree is okay but seriously they are no where near the caliber as Modest Mouse or DCFC in talent, popularity or following.
You have never heard of The Mars Volta or Built to Spill?
I am just flabbergasted.

Hey Loyal From London Trust me this lineup is much better than last year, I remember in 2006 I missed alot of band because they were so many overlapping. It was such a great lineup. Last year we did not have that problem we didn't move around too much and saw every band we wanted to. Now don't get me wrong there were a some great bands but the 2008 lineup is like the 2006 with so many band to chose from.
I love the polyphonic spree but they are not close to the popularity as some of the other bands mention , plus this year there are going To be amazing bands on the second stages. Battles and Ghostland to mention a few. But do have your homework now, go the Bands my space page and listen to some of the songs they have streaming. If you like them then start getting some of their albums and decide on who you want to see.
as for popularity I would say that Interpol is in the same tier as Modest Mouse, DCFC, The mars volta.
polyphonic is about on par with built to spill and The national.

I literally haven't the slightest idea who Mars Volta or Built to Spill are. And if it wasn't for "Talking Shit About A Pretty Sunset" and "Movie Script Ending", I wouldn't know who Modest Mouse and Death Cab were either.
In my defense, I travel a lot. I tend not to hear emo music in India.
My point about Interpol and The Spree is that there are 6 songs or so from each band that have been popularized through pop culture (movies, tv, adverts). You may not know who the leader singers are but their music is unmistakable. I saw The Spree in concert 5 times last year, I'll defend them til death do us part.
It's all personal taste in the end. I do have loads of homework queued up to justify $1500 supertickets without a must see band in the mix (not sure if The Cure counts).
Then again, Sas is more than just music. For me anyway.
