Thanks Rust The Appleseed Cast have been around for over a decade (although I didn't know them until a couple of years ago). Savages are fucking wicked. I just picked up that album on Sunday and would highly recommend it. savagesband.com/news/

I meant that in a good way...I generally check out the bands you post, and like quite a few of them.

I am not so sure The Knife - Shaking The Habitual is going to end up on my favorite albums of 2013 list. I will keep it on there for now but I am having a hard time digesting it. It may just be the length for me (which probably isn't a fair reason).

There are parts of the album that I like, but this whole tour thing has left a really bad taste in my mouth. Like, I get what they're trying to accomplish, and it's effective, but I kind of fucking hate them for it. I think that might be the point.

Basically their live show is a "performance art" piece and not a musical performance. They are doing loosely choreographed interpretive dance numbers to playbacks of their songs. They do not play instruments, they do not sing, and they do not dance in any way that is remotely interesting to anyone.
it's all supposed to be this play on the title of "Shaking the Habitual". Challenging your ideas of live performance, and making some sort of statement about the consumerist nature of the industry they work in, the world at large, and you as a fan of their music. Basically they take a giant shit in your mouth and expect you to beg for more like the consumerist whore that you are, or have a negative response as many, many people who have seen the show have had.
Like I said, I get what they're trying to do, but for fuck sake, this is supposed to be entertainment AS WELL as art, and it's not that. It's a statement that has lost the entertainment (albeit purposely), and I think it's a slap in the face.
I had a lot more to say about that than I thought I would. I'm not entirely sure I want to sell the record, but I haven't been able to listen to it without being kind of pissed off thinking about all of the stuff I just mentioned. We'll chat over beers when I get back.

Umm, I don't want to be that guy, but what does a shitty show have to do with an album?
I'm more of an album guy, as I have been without money for a while and without any chance of seeing anything but country bands and The Tragically Hip live growing up where I did...I seriously give two shits about what a band does live if I dig their album. I understand the show sucked, but what does that have to do with the recorded material?
I seriously love that Knife album. TL;DR I would gladly buy it, for exactly what you paid for it.

The Flaming Lips playing The Soft Bulletin at Sasquatch somewhat ruined that album for me. It's a bit different since I was actually there, but I can see where fox is coming from.

No, please be that guy. I'm waiting for someone to talk me off the ledge here. The thing is, I would normally agree with you, but this album and subsequent tour are an extension of themselves. Meaning that one is not meant to be separated from the other. Together they form the full concept of what the music on the album represents. Whereas most shows are just there to sell more albums, this tour is almost designed to do the exact opposite. Like I said, I think they accomplished what they were trying to do extremely effectively. To the point where I almost feel like they would rather I never purchased the album to begin with. Yet they want me to listen to it, to see the show, and to buy more of their shit. It's a strange dichotomy that comes off somewhat hypocritical.

Then again, this is the most I've thought about the full concept and direction of an album in a very long time. Damn you The Knife, why you make me think and stuff?

Problem solved.

But seriously, I think it has been mentioned before but we should have a album trade thread. I have a bunch of doubles of classic albums as well as some new ones I never play. I'm way to unorganized to set it all up, but i think it is a solid idea.

Oh we will talk sir Rust. I owe you a beer (or eight) for ditching out on the New Pornos show, and record tradesies sounds right up my alley of discussion.
