I really want to like it but it's just irking me for some reason.
"Finger Back" and "Worship You" are a fantastic duo of songs though - favorite sequence on the album so far.

I think those actually make an incredible trio with "Ya Hey" afterward!

Time for an update...
Fury Things - Fury Things Great new band out of Minneapolis. If you are a fan of Yuck, I would highly recommend this album! Stellar shit.
July Talk - July Talk Came out late 2012, but I only just came across it now. That should still count for something.
The Night Marchers - Allez! allez! Fucking offshoot of Hot Snakes and Rocket From the Crypt. Can't go wrong with that pedigree.
Spacehog - As It Is on Earth Thanks Gramma. Not too many people appreciate this band. Like you, I had no idea they had a new album out. Bought it on iTunes when I got home from work and I'm on my fourth round. "Gluttony" steals the show.
Really looking forward to checking out Vampire Weekend, The National and Gaytheist in the coming weeks.

Sounds right up my alley so I'll check them out. I secretly hope I don't like them that much because I'm moving in 2 weeks and will probably never have the chance to catch them live... Bunch of updates to my list: Chance the Rapper - Acid Rap (#1 on my list right now and it's not really close) Vampire Weekend - MVOTC (just as good as everyone else thinks) Baths - ObsidianPhosphorescent - Muchacho (did not think I would like this at all but I caught a track that shamelessly stole it's sound from Chris Isaak's Wicked Games on the radio and had to check it out)

I am an unabashed Spacehog superfan. I thought they were done and done after the travesty that was The Hogyssey -- twelve fucking years ago -- but damn if the new record doesn't sound like straight up classic Hog.

Resident Alien is one of my favourite albums of all time. The Chines Album was decent enough to still cast a shadow. The Hogyssey seemed to be trying to hard to re-create the magic of Resident Alien...but failed miserably. "This is America" is wretched, at best. WELCOME BACK SPACEHOG!!

Am I the only one who absolutely hates the artificial pitching up/down of the vocals on the new Vampire Weekend? Diane Young would be a perfect song if they just let Ezra sing low naturally, but the ProTools editing just does not stop pissing me off. Especially because he does end up going low naturally by the end of the track. Ugh. Maybe it'll grow on me, but right now I just do not get it. I hope you are totally alone because that's probably my favorite moment on the entire album (maybe tied with the end of "Hannah Hunt," thank you Pea). I got chills when I heard it. I remember thinking, this is exactly what I wanted to happen right now. It reminds me of Discovery, and Discovery is the shit.

This is the first Laura Stevenson album I've listened to. It's got major cheese factor, production-wise, but the songs were rousing to me. Maybe this means I'll like the rest of Laura Stevenson a lot? This is the stuff: quoteunquoterecords.com/qur019/008.mp3That IS the stuff. Okay, acquiring all Laura Stevenson albums now.

Also, I think it's pretty hilarious that I managed to sneak in that comment about Hannah Hunt right before Pitchfork had this to say about it: "In some sense, it seems like Vampire Weekend's entire career thus far has led to this one song."

Pitch-shifted vocals on 'Diane Young' are the shit. 'Hannah Hunt' and 'Unbelievers' are rad. I would put the album on my list if it weren't for 'Hudson', which I don't like at all.

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Is 5 listens enough for me to add this here?
I love this album. I absolutely fucking love it. And before you all jump on me for being a fanboy, I almost gave up on it my first listen through. Nothing about it is even in the same universe as what I would have thought a new Daft Punk album would sound like a few months ago. Hell, 3/4 of it isn't what I thought it was going to sound like last week. It's going to end up extremely high on my top 10 list for completely different reasons than I anticipated, and I think that's pretty awesome.

Please add:
Noah and the Whale - Heart of Nowhere
It's like they took a course in Brat Pack 101, and I can't love it more. This might end up in my top 10 for the year. Perfect pop album.

I wanna go back to talking about the new Vampire Weekend album for a second...
I can't get enough of it. For me it's their best album to date - and it's probably the best album I've heard all year.
