Favorite albums through the first half of 2013: Kanye West- Yeezus Justin Timberlake- The 20/20 Experience The National- Trouble Will Find Me Daft Punk- Random Access Memories Disclosure- Settle How to Destroy Angels- Welcome Oblivion Yo La Tengo- Fade Atoms for Peace- AMOK Phoenix- Bankrupt!
Honorable mentions who I need a little more time with whom I imagine will end up on my end of the year list: Boards of Canada, Camera Obscura, Chance the Rapper, David Bowie, Devendra Banhart, Eleanor Friedberger, Foals, Indians, James Blake, Phosphorescent, and Sigur Rós.
Excited for new releases from Run the Jewels, Nine Inch Nails, Neko Case, CHVRCHES, MGMT, Volcano Choir, and Justin Timberlake. I'm casually optimistic about Magna Carta Holy Grail. I'm also excited about prospective releases from Earl Sweatshirt, Arcade Fire, and Haim.
I recognize that thus far my list is fairly BNM-y, but for whatever reason, I've only been able to get myself to listen to Modern Vampires of the City once.

Ugh, I love the album a lot but that review comes off as really petty. This idea that we have to choose between indie rap (which I'm not even sure el-p is and Killer Mike certainly isn't) and commercial rap is completely outdated and is incredibly boring. I don't care that the writer didn't like yeezus, that's their opinion and I'm fine with it, but did they need to spend half of the review whining because other people liked it? The shot at Pitchfork is almost comically unnecessary too and just shows that too many people use Pitchfork as a stand in for hipster culture at large. The three main El-P releases they've reviewed have received 8.5, 8.0, and 8.9. Those are crazy good scores and they've done more to promote El-Ps work than just about any other publication out there. Hell, they even gave two Killer Mike albums from before he hooked up with El-P scores of 8.0 and 7.9, also very good scores.
Oh well, I'm sure I'm the only one who is gonna get worked up over that review. It's almost like it was written solely to rile me up by taking shots at two of my favorite things, Kanye and Pitchfork.

I can definitely see how you could feel that way about it. I, for one, feel like he summed up very well what I was feeling about Yeezus (which I love, by the way) vs RTJ (which I also love). That is that Yeezus felt like Kanye was doing on purpose just to shock people and RTJ did it becaus it's just naturally what they do. Also, he made a pretty good point about people being all on Kanye's dick for doing what El-P has been doing for years. The author was clearly a huge El-P fan already and I think he mostly went after Yeezus because it's the big dog on the block right now. And if there are two subjects in the music world that it is "cool" to talk shit about these days, they are Kane and Pitchfork. Unfortunate for your two favorite things. My condolences.

Yea I love Maya Jane Coles. Super bummed I wasn't able to catch her at Coachella.
This god damn Moderat album might just give Deafheaven a run for it's money for my favorite album of 2013 so far. It's absolutely everything that I love about music right now, and hits on so many different levels for me.

Adding:
The Octopus Project - Fever Forms
I've always liked TOP, but they've only had a few songs that really revved my engines before. But Fever Forms is an entirely different animal, and probably my favorite album of theirs to date.

The video is pretty cool, too. I can’t wait to check out Fever Forms.
