Better than having them sit on the porch all day.

Better than having them sit on the porch all day. Definitely. Especially when I have to sign that stupid slip that says if anything happens to them it is now no bodies problem but my own. You know that paper trail goes back to Live Nation, and they are hard enough to deal with as it is.

Stormy and I lived in an apartment building in SE Portland for a while where if you got a package delivered, you had to buzz the mailman in so he could bring it to you except for that for as long as we lived there the landlord slumlord who owned the place couldn't be bothered to program us into the callbox on the front door, so we would end up having to drive all the way out to north Portland to pick it up from the post office there.
It was pain in the ass enough without it being entirely fucking unnecessary.

Finding somewhere new to live fucking blows. Is there a better way than craigslist or is that still pretty much the go to?

Finding somewhere new to live fucking blows. Is there a better way than craigslist or is that still pretty much the go to? I like to use Padmapper and/or Trulia. Padmapper takes listings from craigslist and other places and puts them on a handy map, and Trulia has a lot of good listings you won't find on craigslist.

I will check those out... hopefully they work for Vancouver. It's also frustrating as balls trying to find somewhere that is decent and a somewhat reasonable price.
I was hoping for somewhere closer to downtown, but this seems unlikely unless I want to live in a dump or with 4 roommates in a 2 bedroom place.

Commercial Drive area but a little more north closer to Hastings can still be decent price-wise and is closer to downtown.
I think Craigslist is still the go-to for Vancouver listings but there are a lot of scams and general shit to wade through. One good way (if you have the time) is to just go to a neighbourhood you're interested in and walk around looking for vacancy signs and copy down numbers; a lot of buildings only list on their own property management sites so unless you're specifically looking them up, you might never know they're renting.

Move to New West. We can hang out. I want to get closer to the city, not further away. I was really hoping for a place downtown but my hopes seem quite dashed at the moment.

If you can go check the place out and verify the renter is legit there shouldn't be much of a problem. I rented recently from craigslist. I was a little freaked out by it, because there wasn't very much paperwork, and my landlord said they live in Hawaii, but after some internet research stalking, I felt alright about it. Newspaper ads seem like they suck.

I've rented off craigslist before, it was fine. It is annoying when there are loads of places that seem too good to be true, then you email them and they want you to mail a cheque to them in Korea or whatever and they will mail me the keys. I pretty much ignore anything that seems awesome now, which is sucks because there's an off chance some of them might be real.

I have used craigslist exclusively for my last 4 places, and all were fine, but it's been almost 5 years since the last move now.

Two of my friends just recently moved and they both found their places on Craigslist, and their places are quite nice too. It just takes some effort. Keep at it, I'm sure you'll find the right place.

I'm not getting too bent out of shape yet, I've been looking for like 3 hours at this point. I just forgot how expensive places without roommates are.

My dog getting sprayed by a skunk at 11:30pm was exactly how I wanted to end my day. So thank you, Universe, for helping make that happen.
