That's because Pretty Lights tries so hard to make some kind of weird intellectual (or what the fuck ever he's going for) EDM that it ends up sounding like a shit stew of annoying samples. Skrillex is far more entertaining and embraces the fact that dance music is derpy.

But I think his whole thing is supposed "IDM" (oxymoron if you ask me) and more groovin' then dancin'. Which is fun and all, but he should have opened for Girl Talk because at the end of the first night of Sasquatch you don't want to see fallin' stars and to feel mellow. You want a Blitzkrieg Bop shitshow parade, amirite? |

Haha I was specifically downloading progressive trance mixes the other day. Sub genres are silly, yes, but clarity helps in such a wide spectrum of styles.

IDM is headphone music. Pretty Lights isn't really headphone music. That's basically how I distinguish EDM genres - do I want to listen to this on my headphones, or do I want to listen to this in a sweaty crowd on drugs, or do I just not want to listen to this.
