The one thing I can appreciate about weak headliners is that it gives me a chance to fully enjoy a Sahara headliner without feeling guilty about missing some legendary set for a knob twister. I thought the same thing, but Coachella has done some pretty amazing things with their headliners the past couple years. I feel inclined to watch the headliners for fear of missing something huge. The Arcade Fire balls was on of the coolest things I've seen live. In reading the article womp posted, it sounds like the Stones pulled out because they won't be ready by April, which is probably the same reason Daft Punk isn't there. I might have to buy a ticket to Chicago this summer, because C3 has to have a huge fucking grin on their face.

No amount of Red Hot Chili Pepper balls could justify me watching the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Outside Lands went bigger than Lollapalooza last year. I am thinking that will be the Summer Festival to check out.
Edit: One thing about that Outside Lands lineup though, most of the headliners aren't artists that many people would have predicted.

I would shit in my pants if I got to see Stagger Lee live. If you don't watch Nick Cave you are doing life wrong.

Let's not that in 2006, Daft Punk, Madonna and Kanye were added about a week before the festival, and the following year it was Prince. There is still hope for a big headliner above Phoenix. Unfortunately they can't pull RHCP off the lineup.

Unfortunately they can't pull RHCP off the lineup. But how awesome would that be? The only reason I could see them adding adding another big name is to secure big ticket sales for 2014. It's all about selling out the following year with Coachella nowadays, and with this current lineup, that huge instant sellout that occurred last June won't be duplicated this time around.

Anyone do the drive from Phoenix before? Our group is looking at flights and we are trying to avoid LAX at all costs. We have done the trip from LAX the last two years and the drive has topped 4 hours both times. Looks like Phoenix is about three and a half hours away...but I would rather be driving for 4 hours than be stuck on the interstate for 4 hours.

Can you fly into either San Diego or Ontario? I've done both and the drives are about 2.5 hours and 1.5 hours, respectively. I'm ridiculously excited to make the drive up from San Diego again this year. The scenery is beautiful along the way.

Hmmmm, those are both good ideas. About the same prices as Phoenix or LAX, but the flight times aren't as convenient.

LA traffic is very finicky stuff. We left around noon last year and didn't have any issues getting out there. My advice, if you don't decide on landing somewhere else, try arranging an earlier LAX arrival time.

FD, Ro and I are flying into LAX fairly early - I think we all land by like, 10am or earlier. I expect traffic to be not that bad at that time.

Quick note on Rodriguez, since this thread will very soon turn into tell me who I should see, he's a 70 year old folk singer who put out two albums 40 years ago. He didn't become famous until 20 years later, at which point I'm pretty sure he wasn't even still a musician. There's a pretty crazy story about how he became famous, and a documentary about it, but I don't recall the whole story. He still only has those two proper studio albums, and there are some really interesting songs on there. He's sort of the Mexican Cat Stevens, and had a really smooth voice 40 years ago. Who knows what he sounds like now, but he's also worth 15 minutes of your time at Coachella. He'll probably be the oldest dude there. I pulled this from the Coachella board when I noticed there is a Rodriguez thread over there (only ten posts). It explains the story I didn't quite recall. Definitely not his best song, but possibly his most memorable. It's a dive bar song.

Okay, I'm starting to get really excited about the lineup now.
Friday: Blur (can't fucking wait!), Stone Roses (still not super pumped, but it will be a blast to get wild to "I am the Resurrection"), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Grinderman, How to Destroy Angels, Four Tet, Sparks, Lee Scratch Perry (so stroked!), and hopefully I can catch some Youth Lagoon and Wolfgang
Saturday: New Order, Hot Chip, Moby (can't wait to get wild with Moby!!), Violent Femmes, Janelle Monae, The Wombats, REIGNWOLF, Pusha T, The Selector and hopefully a little Major Lazer and Richie Hawtin
Sunday: NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS(Oh my FUCK(!) yes! Most anticipated set of the weekend for me by far), Vampire Weekend, Wu-Tang Clan, La Roux, James Blake, Gaslight Anthem, OMD, Father John Misty, Jessie Ware, Thee Oh Sees (fucking finally!), Jeff the Brotherhood. Catching Dinosaur Jr. is always fun and hopefully a little Roni Size too.
Man, it went from "who the fuck do I even want to see that would make going all the way out there even worth it?" to "I'm not going to even be able to see all these amazing bands!!!!". Other than sniffing out OMD a little further, I haven't even started checking out the shit I don't even know. This is going to be awesome. Yeah!
