I'm starting to think Coachella has completely and totally fucking shit the bed on one or some of their bigger names. This is getting ridiculous. I think that Coachella was banking on The Rolling Stones headlining. Once contract negotiations fell through, Coachella found themselves missing a headliner (and didn't want to go the Governors Ball route of advertising an "as-yet-announced third headliner"). When Black Sabbath pulled out near the lineup release date last year, Coachella found The Black Keys - a convenient and capable replacement - to step in. The Black Keys were already touring, so it was easy for them to add two shows. Such a replacement might not exist this year, hence the delay in the lineup release. ...or I'm completely wrong and Coachella is about to knock us out of our chairs with an amazing announcement.

That was just someone who typed the word 'monklish' into the name field. Paul Toilet also posted something in there, but I'm willing to bet that isn't the same guy who runs Coachella.

I'm not even going to pretend to be cool. I just listened to that in its entirety, sang along for some of it, and enjoyed the shit out of it.

Serious question: if Coachella comes up with a lineup that is worse than last year* will it not sell out the presale next year or will it not even make a difference since it's the thing to do in April?
*lets say Sasquatch level of headliners, some rare bands that most people won't see, a few big name EDM guys and the rest the same basic stuff every other festival has.

The only people I know who've gone to a music festival who don't even really care about music have gone to Coachella. The place where I get my haircut have about 7 of the girls working there going. None of them knew any of the bands from last year. They heard about how fun it was from following celeb tweets.
As long as it's still the hot place to be seen I think the lineup will have little consequence towards this thing selling out.

The only thing I'm worried about is having to win a lottery to continue attending Coachella for the next six years. At this point, I hope the headliners suck.

At some point the cost/fun ratio has to get screwed up. The price of a Coachella weekend for an out-of-stater is probably more than a week in Mexico at an all inclusive resort. If you aren't going for the music eventually wouldn't people go for other options?
The amount of demand before a lineup is amazing, so one of two things is happening:
1. People know they will put together a great lineup because they have in the past. 2. People don't really care about the lineup and just want to go for the party.
I'd like to think it's '1' but I really have no idea.

I don't know about that. From Seattle to Cabo on 4/11 and returning 4/18, the cheapest All-Inclusive I could find was $1,207. I did Coachella last year for less than a grand.

Most people who bought a presale pass to Coachella did so for the same reason I did - because every year the lineup is awesome. There has not been a Coachella I would not attend because of the lineup. There are bigger parties and other places to be "seen." Coachella is Coachella because of the lineup, everything else hinges on that.
It will be great again this year, too.
