For those interested... Factor flights into Atlanta instead of Miami - Catherine and I will drive.

Flights the week of the cruise start at $517 from Seattle. Flights the week of Christmas start at $570. I wouldn't call that mega savings. True, but working in the hospitality industry I know that rates are far more likely to drop for travel in that week whereas rates during the peak holiday period will only go up. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying it would be cheap. All the costs involved still make this a very pricy festival to go to. But I'm sure if most of us had the cash to blow on this, we'd be turning it into another boarder party.

Currently approximately $1200 per person from Vancouver to Atlanta and back, including the cruise itself. I easily spent more money than that doing Coachella. Mind you we did more stuff on top of the festval itself.

I'll never understand boats. Why be on a boat when you can be in the water?? Also, cruises seem weird to me because they put so much effort in to making it feel like you're not on a boat.

I mean, can you even put a price on a wine tasting with James fucking Murphy, or having Z-trip teach you how to scratch records? There's gonna be some pretty rad shit to do on that boat!

As someone who fornicates with a flight attendant , I can assure you that flights in late December get extremely busy and expensive. The Bahamas flight wouldn't be as bad, but the Jamaica date is peak travel period. The more seats on a plane that get sold, the higher the price fare goes. And January is not a busy travel period. I know this because I fly standby and I always take a vacation in January, because I know my chances of getting on a flight are good. I don't dare travel in December because I know I'll get stuck somewhere or have to pay more to have a confirmed seat.

I don't dare travel in December because I know I'll get stuck somewhere or have to pay more to have a confirmed seat. I was referring to the week of the Bahamas cruise; the Jamaica one is definitely in the peak period and as it gets closer to the date, of course the price will go up. That's just how anything in tourism works, the price is only at it's lowest far out from the date or very last minute. The hotel I work at is inside an airport, so while I'll agree that January isn't as bad as the last two weeks of December for travel, we're now seeing many people these days take their holiday vacations in the first half of the month. It definitely peters out by the end of the month though. edit: Ugh, on re-read I feel like I'm coming across as confrontational and like I'm splitting hairs. That's not what I mean to do at all. All I meant was I don't think they're holding the cruise at a bad time of year, and I don't think the holiday season will affect too many people's decisions to go. This is what I get for posting on a sold out night when I'm dealing with a million idiots.

Man, wish I could go to that. The idea of partying with Jarvis Cocker and James Murphy on a cruise is way too much to imagine. While, I actually thought it would be way more expensive doing a Coachella thing on a cruise, I still can't afford it unfortunately. If anybody comes down and meets up with Catherine and Stamper in Atlanta, all of you should make a stop to Charleston on the way down, it's a little out of the way, but it'd be awesome.

You're stating your opinion based on your work experience, and I'm just going with what what the Mrs. said and my experience with travel over Dec&Jan. Agree to disagree I guess

I was going to use the same joke. Douchebag minds think alike. I'm amazed anyone has anything negative to say about this. This sounds fucking rad. You know the artists are on the cruise too, right? It's not like they all have a private helicopter fly them in and out just for their set. You know Coachella appeals to rich movies stars, right? That entire cruise would be hanging with some of the richest most beautiful music fans in the country and the artists themselves, and no fifteen year old fucks tripping balls begging for drugs. My only negative is the cost, and that's really more of my own issue of being broke than anything. If I had the money I'd totally go to this. Why anyone thinks it's a negative having it the week before Christmas holidays is beyond me. That's when flights, hotels etc. are cheaper since peak travel is during the holiday period. And if it were in January it would cost more too since that's when most people take their post-holidays holiday. The only negative thing I think about it has more to do with the boat. I have always wondered if I would enjoy a cruise, or if I would feel really claustrophobic that I can't get off the boat. Although, those things are fucking massive so I guess there is a lot of room to move around. My only other concern would be sneaking reefer in, because you bet your sweet as I would not want to be on a giant boat without that.

You do not want to be caught in international waters with illegal drugs... bad plan all around.
There is a very entertaining thread on the Coachella forum about how to smuggle drugs on to the boat. There's really only one (uncomfortable) way mentioned.
