The most difficult crowd to get close for will be Pretty Lights, guaranteed

They will ALWAYS clear room for someone with a handful of glowsticks.

If you really want into the pit area, but security isn't letting any more people in, just feel free to jump the fence. Nothing bad will happen to you or your leg. I tried to do that, and they picked me up and pushed me back out. The only time I've gotten through without them letting me in, was during DFA1979 and Flogging Molly when everyone was pushing hard.

You just have to get past the Mullet guy. That essentially sums it all up. /thread.

cool, thanks everyone. Let's say I get there at 5 on Saturday and plan to stay for Childish Gambino - Metric - Shins - Jack White, do I basically have to go without hitting a beer cart/portapotty for 6-7 hours, or do you have access to these from the "inner pit"? I'm sure you have to leave for these, but I'm curious. You have to work your way in to the inner pit. So if you plan on getting in there for the headliners, you should probably plan on staying from the subheadliner onwards. Truth. Not to mention it can actually be kind of a pain in the ass to get out of the inner pit when it's super crowded, since most people don't want to move an inch in any direction once they get set up. Basically, if the inner pit is full when you get down there, move as close as you can to the front left side of the barricade, which is where they start letting people in as the inner pit thins out a bit. As the subheadliner ends, almost always at least 100 people leave the inner pit and they let more in, and then you can move your way to the front if you so desire. Personally in my late 20s I can't really handle standing in the same place for several hours as well as I could in 2008 during my first Sasquatch, so the inner pit won't be happening except for a few select bands. The outer pit provides plenty decent views, while generally allowing enough room to stretch out a bit.

I actually really like the inner / outer pit setup at Sasquatch. Once you're in the inner pit, you're not in any danger of getting crushed and you generally have enough space to not feel claustrophobic. For sets like Chromeo and Fitz and the Tantrums last year I hung out at the very back row of the inner pit. Lots of room, and I could stash my bag behind the barrier easily. They've probably altered the setup since 2008, but my friend and I were front and center for MIA that year and we were quite close to getting crushed when she called for people to come up to the stage. That was one of my best and worst memories of Sasquatch all in one.

I feel bad for people who camped out in the pit all day for the UFO show. It wasn't necessary. We waltzed right up to the front less than five minutes before it started.

Dum Dum Girls end at 5:55 and Childish Gambino at 6:10. How long will it take to get to the pit area of the main stage after Dum Dum Girls? I want to be inner pit for Metric. Should I duck out of Dum Dum Girls early? Is this a possibility or should I just plan on watching Childish Gambino?
What about side stage acts? For example, do I have to endure tune-yards to be up front for St. Vincent? If I catch Zola Jesus, how shitty will my spot be for Little Dragon?
The only two headliners I plan on watching are Beck and Jack White, and getting up front for either of those isn't going to be even attempted because of commitments at other stages (Mogwai and St Vincent, respectively.

Is there a certain age when people stop planning and caring about the exact position in front of the stage they can obtain? Jesus folks, just go with the flow. There isn't a bad seat at the Gorge.

Not gonna lie, I cared a lot about being up close for the foo last year... but I had a sad history with the foo I had to purge.

I should rephrase - the ONLY act that it will be really hard to get into the pit for is Pretty Lights. Honestly, it's never that hard.

This thread is beginning to go in circles.
It is not remotely challenging getting into the (inside) pit. Most acts, you'll need to be close to the entrance gate within 10 minutes of the band you want to see there... For the bigger acts you'll need to be there within 25 minutes of their set. As for the outer pit area --- in most cases, you can roll up on in there just as the band is beginning their set and you won't have a problem getting a good spot.
In my experience, you almost never need to camp out in the pit for ANY band. And as it has been mentioned, at great lengths, there really isn't a bad spot at all on the Sasquatch stage. Seriously. Whether that's the inner pit, the outer pit, the rock piles or the giant fucking hill - you'll be able to see the stage perfectly.

In summation, don't waste your day watching one act you don't want to see just so you can get a good spot in the pit for a band you do want to see. You'll be able to see that band perfectly fine regardless of the time you get there . I promise.

Totally. I was walking down the path as the Foo Fighters were starting, still made it to the middle of the outer pit without pushing anyone and had more than enough room to do my white boy dance.
