Today I found out last minute that Brian Aubert and Nikki Monninger of Silversun Pickups would be performing a free short acoustic set at a guitar shop in Portland's Pearl district. I hauled ass just in time to make it in before they shut the doors because of the capacity limit.
They opened with Bloody Mary, then went into Busy Bees (I think?), Dots and Dashes, Panic Switch, and finished with Lazy Eye. It was my first time seeing them in any form and I must say that they are phenomenal musicians. Really nice people with a great stage presence. It got me all the more excited to see their main stage set.

A little help with the Civil Wars vs. Portlandia conflict would be appreciated.

Portlandia is lazy, opportunistic bullshit.

Fred Armisen's whole shtick boils down to bugging his eyes out and smiling awkwardly. Even if that amuses you, you'd have to be in the front row for it to even work.

Portlandia will be exactly like trailer park boys last year, overrun with brahs, less than favorable performance, and at the time of day when it would be best to be prep'n for the evening...
Civil wars will be good but i agree that the Alabama Shakes is going to be the set to be at...
THEESatisfaction gets my second place vote, Civil Wars third, Grynch fourth and finally Portlandia...

That was a conflict for me as well (The Civil Wars vs. Alabama Shakes vs. Portlandia) and I decided tentatively on The Civil Wars because I like their album from last year, but I may end up going to Alabama Shakes instead because I already planned on being at Bigfoot for Kurt Vile after them. Probably the toughest decision of the weekend for me.

Wellll. Tenacious D is getting overloaded with questions so I won't even bother asking them about their sasquatch set.

I was planning on seeing X tonight down the street at the Crystal Ballroom but Bassnectar will probably be the better show. Plus, they're old now.
