So, do Pretty Lights have any good original tracks I should be checking out?
I Know little about them. This thread alone has me interested enough to join the party, but I mean, are they something worth listening to on record at all?
Tracks on youtube have not impressed me, though I get how a live show can be a whole different world when it comes to EDM.

It's free to download on his website too. Tracks on youtube have not impressed me, though I get how a live show can be a whole different world when it comes to EDM. His recorded tracks are longer and more drawn out compared to his live shows. A Pretty Lights show is a spectacle and dance party to behold. These are two tracks worth listening to if you haven't already.

I can't remember the names of the tracks I already listened to, but I didn't mind those in comparison. Does no one else feel that there are certain electronic acts (Chemical Brothers, for example) that would be at your ipod. Sure any DJ with a bass that drops every 5 minutes is enough to make a group of fcked up people have a good time, but it's just hard to imagine how someone is headliner material if they are all flash and no substance. Those tracks seem more promising.
Do most people on the board have the opinion that EDM is solelt a live experience and not something that you ever put on your ipod walking down the street? Maybe I'm the odd one out.
Don't get me wrong I will have a great time at the show either way, just sayin...

I listen to EDM every day. Whether I'm walking to class, driving, snowboarding, working out, doing homework, partying, or just lounging.

If you look in the EDM thread there is some really good information and reviews from members on this board. I personally only really listen to EDM in situations like Sasquatch but we have some users that really like it and are very eloquent about the subject.

I generally agree with you, tesla -- I am of the opinion that most EDM is essentially the soundtrack to an experience and doesn't really have much artistic merit outside of a live setting. Deadmau5 is a perfect example; I think that Deadmau5' music is pointless and boring, but he still put on one of the coolest shows I've ever seen. (I typed the word 'performances' and replaced it with the word 'shows' because I don't really think of Deadmau5 as a performer).
I believe that most EDM fans really are just fans of doing drugs and dancing, and that most EDM artists wouldn't have a pot to piss in if they didn't spend their entire trust fund on a big, flashy toy. I recognize that there are people who feel very differently, though, and who find a great deal to admire in the music itself. Take J-Dawg, who is an inveterate EDM fan from old times and doesn't even partake in psychedelics.
I can't say that I understand it, and the fact that I refuse to refer to Skrillex' body of work as 'music' might just indicate that I am getting old and am firmly on the far side of the latest generation gap, but 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong, if you know what I mean.

Some Pretty Lights tracks speak to me, like Cold Feeling, We Must Go On, etc. Others just make me groove the fuck out, such as Keep Em Bouncin, Total Fascination, etc. Others do both, like I Can See It In Your Face.
One thing's for sure, his live shows are a fuckin blast, and he knows how to entertain. I've seen him numerous times, from 100% sober to royally fucked up, in a small concert hall with a drummer and no visual production, to the Sahara at Coachella and the main stage at Snowglobe, and each time has been massively unique and enjoyable.
Oh, for the record, I get way down to Cold Feeling when he plays it live. The time for us is now... That shit gets me movin.

So, if I don't make it to Sasquatch this year (reasonably possible) you folks better mon the fuck out of Pretty Lights for me. I expect the sort of videos that will make me travel through a glowing, interdimensional gate while stone cold sober. And one of you better wear a glowing cowboy hat. I'll even explain how to make one. Even though you should come, I still wouldn't be upset if you PMed me instructions on that cowboy hat. I should probably just post it somewhere. What I really should have done is take pictures while I was making my hats (yes, plural), since taking pictures after the fact is a little trickier in terms of explaining it. I have another idea on how to document the process. If I have some time the next few weekends, I'll write a blog post about it and then whoever is interested can just read it on my blog.

I don't speak Flemish, so I just pronounce it like it's spelled, in English.

This is going to be decent. Has anyone found a good source for glowsticks yet? I'm seeing some on ebay - the 8 inch skinny ones. Do people usually throw those or the full size 6 inch ones? Those things are freaking expensive and would probably hurt to get smacked in the head with.

The skinny 8 inch ones are what most people are packing.
Yeah, yeah yeah

the 8 inch skinny ones are what you want for the glowpocalypse. $50 for 1000 is about the upper end of what you'll pay if you shop around on ebay.

Just found 9,000 for $420 - who's with me? I need a glowstick cannon to shoot them off from the VIP area.
