That's wild! I was thinking there might be some attendees from Canada this year. How perfect would it be if we were both right?

You guys really gotta get working on that fence to keep us all out.

You guys really gotta get working on that fence to keep us all out. I wouldn't even joke about that. The fence along the Mexican border was the punchline of jokes for twenty years, and look where we are now.

plus girl talk would be much better...Shpongle (or any late night set ever up to this point, imo) wut. Best late night set ever if he played? Booka Shade/Bassnectar/Deadmau5/Ratatat/Boys Noize are all better than Girl Talk. Sure it would be fun, but no way would it be the best.

Ratatat was the only one of those I even went to see. but don't worry, this year's late night sets will almost certainly be Pretty Lights and maybe Shpongle or something like that. like I said before, I think they only put Girl Talk on the late night stage if the EDM kids have something to womp to on the mainstage.

Alright then. dude, you could hear that show all the way back at the campsite! seriously though, I checked it out, and moved on. looked like people were having fun, but I found the music simplistic and it didn't make me want to dance. was that the one where the PA was completely cutting out? I seem to remember that happening. I thought it was part of the show.

Alright then. yes, I think bassnectar is simplistic. and repetitive. and boring. girl talk is entirely different, first of all because the mashup format he uses works on a totally different level. he tickles nostalgic centers of the brain, he is sampling shit that everybody knows and putting it to beats that everybody recognizes, and he gets the hipsters in skinny jeans to dance. that is his genius. bassnectar occupies a different universe, in which he is also hugely popular, but I would argue that getting teenagers on pills to dance is a bit easier. girl talk doesn't really have "songs" at all, it's hard to tell where the track breaks are because the songs change entirely every 30 seconds or so. to be honest, I find it nearly impossible to listen to an entire girl talk album, but I wouldn't miss his live show, which as I said before is way different from his albums (not stylistically, just using the samples differently and dropping different beats and riffs and changing things up all over the place - you never hear someone at a girl talk show yell out "play Oh No!!!"). on the other hand, bassnectar songs are one grating riff repeating for a long fucking time with the occasional air horn or chunky synth breakdown. that, to me, is simplistic. music made up of carefully sliced up pieces of other songs constantly morphing in style and never staying on one thing for more than a few seconds packed with literally thousands of tiny cultural references yet undeniably danceable is, to me, not simplistic.

I'm going to have to agree with PitPat on this one. But then again I don't really like EDM, so I am biased.

While it's true that Ratatat is basically the only artist who has had a late-night slot in the last five years whose material I would listen to outside of the Sasquatch experience, I have to say that arguing the artistic/intellectual merit of Girl Talk over Bassnectar/Deadmau5/whatever is pretty fucking idiotic.
Girl Talk is music for people who don't know shit about music. Lowest common denominator. Shut up about it.

Also if you're too good for the glowpocalypse then I just don't know what to say to you.
You know what? I kinda hope Deadmau5 is back this year. I wanna see the new toy.
