So Primus is meow on the Wakarusa lineup. It starts on May 31st and goes until June 3rd. Still, Arkansas, Chicago, and the Gorge in a week is pretty doable... right?

As long as every college from Ellensburg continues to make a yearly pilgrimage to Sasquatch, MGMT will always be at least sub-headlining material. Considering their crowd in '10, a headlining slot wouldn't be out of the question next time they return. Surprisingly, there aren't too many CWU kids at Sasquatch. It's mostly Western and UW. Some of the security though last year were CWU football players. Personally I thought MGMT sucked at Sasquatch, but I love their recorded material. I would be down to give them another chance but I wouldn't have to high of expectations.

When I saw MGMT they didn't play Kids. I understand bands getting sick of their hits and what not...but come on guys. You have two albums. One of them is terrible. Play Kids.

Congratulations is an awesome album. You knew exactly which one I was talking about. It sucks. STOP JUSTIFYING THE SUCK.

Congratulation is WAAAAAY better than the other one. And it sounded so much better live than the material on the first one.
No justification at all. And when someone says that one of their records sucks, of course they are referring to Congratulations. That's the gospel according to Poochfuck.

I'm so happy MGMT has been brought into this discussion. Though I've never seen them live I still think they could put on a good show especially if they mix in some of their early stuff. (before Oracular Spectacular, they actually released 2 EPs)

Their EPs are collectively much better than Oracular. They were all over the place on that album.

(before Oracular Spectacular, they actually released 2 EPs) Yeah I wouldn't hold my breath for that. Their set consists of the hits, 'Kids' if the concert promoter is willing to pay extra for it, and a cross-section of Fuck-The-Haters selections from Congratulations like 'Brian Eno'. Even if they played 'Siberian Breaks' they couldn't fill a two hour set (unless they bring that fucking cake onstage again), so they won't be headlining unless Adam Snack's gets REALLY desperate (read:DCFC in 2011).

Only reason I brought it up was because I was looking at the 2010 lineup, thinking about the apparent policy Adam Zacks has about promoting from within, and who that might apply to this year.
I also had a chuckle at how far down the list Mumford & Sons were.

Fuck Mumford, and fuck his fans.
I get agitated when worthless bands get huge and take over.

I'm spinning Congratulations for the first time in about a year... It's about as good as I remember it being, but honestly how is it so different from Oracular? Maybe a little more surf rock in there, but is that a dealbreaker for ANYONE? If not for the extended freakout this would be nearly indistinguishable from their first.
Poochfuck's dismissive review wash so fucking arbitrary. Someone please explain to me what about Oracular Spectacular does it for you that is missing from Congratulations.

I like both of MGMT's albums and liked their set at Sasquatch but I think it's a bit premature for them returning. Maybe if they had more than two albums' worth of material to work with so they could play a mostly different set from last time. Bands like the Flaming Lips are there every other year because of their massive collections of songs, and their ability to put on a fantastic live show. MGMT don't really have either of these, they're pretty boring live compared to a lot of bands.

Someone please explain to me what about Oracular Spectacular does it for you that is missing from Congratulations. What's missing? Songs that are catchy and memorable and stick in your brain even when you grow tired of them. Congratulations was forgettable. Oracular was infectious.

So you want them to write 'Kids' again. Got it.

More likely you don't remember the songs as well because you didn't listen to it seventy-five times like you did Oracular.

I can't speak to the actual reviews, but I do recall them scoring Oracular and Congratulations exactly the same. Based on that, if they indicated that one was better than the other then they're fucking idiots. But we already know that.

No, I don't want them to write anything in particular. I hope they are able to make whatever music they want to. For me, personally, there just wasn't much on Congratulations that stuck with me. I enjoyed it and gave it due time. It just didn't have the same impact. You asked what the first had that the second didn't and thats my answer. To be fair, I didn't really love either album. They're both decent imo. But I don't find myself randomly humming Brian Eno or Congratulations out of the blue. More likely you don't remember the songs as well because you didn't listen to it seventy-five times like you did Oracular.
