Having to choose the Pumpkins over Massive Attak hurt my heart a bit.

I'm surprised Elliott Smith beat Alice in Chains so easily. Alice in Chains would easily be top five 90s bands for me. Wayne Coyne has you all brainwashed to feel sorry for Elliott Smith.

I would have to say the same about Alice in Chains, I know lots of people that dig them, but have never liked one thing I have heard, sorry.

He gets talked about as being really sad a lot (which is partially true) but there is a sweetness in a lot of his songwriting that is wonderful.

I'm not a fan of Elliot Smith and only own one album that I don't really like. I thought for sure that Alice in Chains would take him out because they were a lot more prominent in the 90's. Elliot Smith is just mopey and sad. I had to go with him over Prince though because I know nothing about Prince's 90's output.

I started listening to Elliott Smith after I moved to Portland, and really got into him because his songs remind me of the cold wet winters in Portland. Then I realized he was literally singing about the cold wet winters in Portland, complete with street names, areas of town, local events, etc. That was a pretty funny, "no shit?" moment for me.
As for Alice In Chains, I still think Layne Staley is one of the greatest vocalists in the history of rock.

I don't mean to shit on Alice in Chains, but seriously, the way he sings reminds me of Scott Stapp. I actually dig some of their songs until I hear his voice, and then I'm all, wow these guys are the reason there is Nickleback. That's when I stop taking them seriously.

I know nothing about Prince's 90's output. Diamonds and Pearls, Love Symbol Album, Gold Experience & Emancipation to name a few
