I love Islands -- to an extent -- but we saw them on the Arm's Way tour, and... yeah. I don't think I need to see Islands again. Next to Stephen Malkmus, I've never seen a performer throw such a tantrum onstage. Yeah, see I love Islands purely based on recorded material. I've never seen an Islands show before. Can I ask why he threw a tantrum? the Malkmus reference has me really interested.

The thing is, they were playing at literally the shittiest venue in town. It's like, the show where cut-rate emo bands play to high school kids on Thursday nights. Terrible, terrible venue, with truly shitty sound. There were feedback problems consistently through the first thirty minutes of the show, and when a particularly bad one happened as they started to play 'Where There's a Will There's a Whalebone', he threw down his mic and stormed off the stage.
The band seriously vamped the first eight bars of 'Whalebone' for nearly ten minutes before Nicky D came back onstage. Fortunately, it was pretty badass.

I love that every town has their shitty venue where all the lousy emo bands play. The one here in Minneapolis is literally called Cabooze. I definitely prefer the Hawthorne over Cabooze or El Corazon (Seattle)

I hate the Hawthorne. I'm going there next week to see Atlas Sound and I already know there's going to be sound problems.
Seriously, why haven't they fixed that shit yet? It's been like that ever since I started going to shows.

I didn't realize there was a new Islands album coming out, untill I saw that it just came out this week. I got to check that out. This album is godawful. It will ruin Islands for you. I advise staying away.

Kind of. It's just whiny in a very blatantly uncreative way. Are we sure Islands was being "blatantly uncreative"?

Just like when Bob Nastanovich started skipping around the stage singing playing tambourine during the Pavement set.

It's awesome until you're at the point where you just really wanna hear 'em play fucking 'Whalebone' and you have to wait until Nick Diamonds is done powdering his fucking nose.

Just like when Bob Nastanovich started skipping around the stage singing playing tambourine during the Pavement set. Exactly. Embarrassed, apologetic, half-assed stage antics to make up for the wine-drunk birthday diva. Sorry, Lumpy. I know you take it hard whenever I rag on that Pavement set, but damn. I just wanted to hear them play 'Spit on a Stranger'.

Haha, at this point I've grown an immunity to it. Doesn't phase me.
And I thought they did play Spit on a Stranger? Or are you just saying you wanted just that and none of the "embarassed, apologetic, half-assed stage antics."

I'm sure they did play it eventually, but I was back in the campground by then.
Seriously, I left the festival for the day because I was so pissed at Pavement after LCD, I was like, nothing is gonna turn this around. I stopped and looked at Dirty Projectors for a minute because they're all such beautiful people, but that cooCOOcooCOOcooCOOCOOcoocoo thing they do was sounding all muddy on the Wook so I bailed and missed Massive Attack. THANKS A LOT PAVEMENT.

I'm with HG on this one, except my jam is Half a Canyon EDIT: (Which I could still hear them not playing from the latte line).

For the experimental music fans: www.discogs.com/Circle-Serpent/release/3414062Not surprising since they release multiple albums every year, but this one is especially exciting due to the fact that they cover Brian Eno. Who the fuck covers Eno? Circle, that's who. Dudes got balls.
