Probably because their new album is a piece of shit . Regardless, I thought this would be their year for Sasquatch and I was stroked to see 'em and this is a bummer. I'm still kind of shocked at how utterly boring that album was, there was nothing memorable at all on there. I'm glad they're breaking up rather than trying to go on without mark McGuire, he was my favorite part of the band.

I thought this was interesting about This Town Needs Guns
The band has released the following statement (cut and pasted):
"With a new year, a new album and a new line up comes a new name for This Town Needs Guns. 2013 is a year of change for the band and we are taking what we feel is a positive step forward. From this point on we will simply be known as TTNG. "Over the years, many of you have asked where the band name comes from. As a band originating in Oxford, UK, 'This Town Needs Guns' was simply a name chosen by a group of friends wanting to make music together. At the time, this name was not considerd particularly offensive and indeed was an ironic statement given the setting of such a historic and cultural city as Oxford. "Context plays a big part in the way a band name such as 'This Town Needs Guns' may be perceived. In the UK, guns are not present. Ordinarily, our police force do not even carry guns. Within this context, an idea such as a town needing guns seems too absurd to be taken seriously. "However, eight years on, things have changed. With our music now finding new cultures, the irony of the name is no longer implicit. Also, in light of the controversy over gun ownership in the US as well as tragic shootings there and elsewhere in the world, we want to distance ourselves from a band name which we are now uncomfortable with. "We hope this change of name doesn't disappoint anyone. It is the music that is important, not the name. As Shakespeare's Juliet said 'What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.'"

What the fuck are they talking about with their "Guns are not present in the UK" shit?
It's well known that in the English countryside everyone and their mums has guns.

Fucking horrible news for me today. Cedric Bixler Zavala (everybody's favorite person to hate on this forum) went on a twitter spree this evening basically saying The Mars Volta is over. This makes the Bosnian Rainbows announcement today bittersweet because I would much rather have The Mars Volta even though I really dig Bosnian Rainbows. My favorite band is now done it appears. I will get unexpectedly drunk tonight. Got some bottles of beer from the store and will drown my sorrows.

Well if it's any consolation the only time I saw them headline was pretty fucking awful, and I would wager that Deloused in the Comatorium has been equally important to you and I. Their best performance that I saw was opening for System of a Down. They absolutely blew SOAD out of the water that night.

That does make me feel better. I saw them on that tour in Seattle and that was my first experience. So fucking good. Empty thanks for keeping my head up. I am going to now go drink and spin all of their vinyl. Have a good evening

Oh no, now who will throw cymbals into the crowd at the main stage?!
No really, I love some of their albums to death, this is fucking tragic. Kinski is now my only hope.

I've been patiently waiting to see them after their amazingly memorable Sasquatch set years ago. You know Cedric and Coachella are like best buddies, so they will be back, guaranteed. The new in is breaking up and reuniting at Coachella.

I am not going to try and defend the cymbals into the crowd thing because I have heard that from all angles on this forum. I do agree that Kinski is rad but I don't get why you bring that up. Man, I don't care for them but I know how much it hurts to have your favorite band break up. Condolences my friend. Thank you Stormy. Fucking sucks. I am so bummed. I never got to see them headline a show either. I've been patiently waiting to see them after their amazingly memorable Sasquatch set years ago. You know Cedric and Coachella are like best buddies, so they will be back, guaranteed. The new in is breaking up and reuniting at Coachella. Word! Hope we get to drink some brews at the Gorge this year dude!
