this may not be the appropriate thread for this, but can anyone attest to the quality of The Shins' live performance? i heard from multiple people who i usually agree with that their stage presence and crowd interaction are about as exciting as going to the dmv. thoughts?

I can't wait until all of you Santa Clause freakshows are dumbfounded by all of the bands that are at Sasquatch that have NW shows in April. I can't wait for this to not happen

Since the Shins are no longer the Shins, I don't think anyone knows what they'll be like live. Hopefully he hired GWAR as his new backup band.

I saw the Shins on Halloween night 2003, a little less than two weeks after Chutes Too Narrow was released. This was before Garden State and before they blew up, and they had all the original members... And honestly it was unbelievably fun. They were all wearing cheap plastic masks and goofing with the audience; my impression was that they were young, on the verge of fame, and having a fantastic time.
I don't know what the intervening nine years have done to the Shins (besides decimate the roster and turn James Mercer into a self-satisfied asshole), but I've always held out hope that if I ever saw them again it would be just exactly the same as that (it won't).

They also stole Ron Lewis from Grand Archives to have him NEVER play at all (Still pissed off about that).

I think you and I might be the only two people on earth that were devastated by this, and then even more fucking pissed when Mercer immediately threw him away. Grand Archives would have become something amazing if he was still in the band. Ughhh

I saw The Shins recently at the Doug Fir in Portland and to be honest it wasn't the great show that I was hoping it would be. I'm sure it will be better at the gorge, with a sunset, with friends.

I just saw the Shins back in October. It was alright, but it certainly did not live up to my expectations. As for their stage presence, I don't remember them being very engaging.

Totally unfounded rumor, but I know Why? are supposed to release a new record soon. And I just read an interview on StereoGum and they said they are going to be touring the hell out of the new record. So there's that...

Speaking of unfounded rumor, was that blabber about sigur ros and chem brothers just a cruel and unusual joke or were there some sort of grounding to it?

Phoenix has a new album dropping in May with no tour info yet. I wonder if they're a possibility? I've never seen them live but wouldn't mind them in a co-headliner Spot.

I deleted your extra post, because I like you and I am feeling expansive and because I also can't stand Phoenix and I felt like once was enough.
Also Why? would be stellar. And how bout a cLOUDDEAD reunion while we're at it?
