Wow that was pretty amazing. Aside from the clusterfuck getting in Thursday evening, everything went pretty well.
Jurassic 5 were the best thing I saw all weekend. Just a fantastic bunch of performers.
Other great acts were Queens of the Stone Age, Gogol Bordello, The Heavy, Madeon, Reignwolf and Vampire Weekend.
Everything I saw was really good except for Pretty Lights who entertained me for about as long as I was holding glowsticks.
It was awesome seeing everyone. I'll post a little more once I feel human again.

I am very glad I didn't hear about that bear. I had given up bear safety about halfway though Thursday night and was just leaving pans of bacon fat out on the table. HOLY SCHAMOLY WHAT FUN THAT WAS! After the literal 10 hours it took us to actually get to Squamish, wait in the camping line and eventually have to create our own camping spots because the yellowshirts ran away from us asking questions ( )everything was amazing and fun and wonderful. Great fucking music, new best friends, absolutely stunning location, a surprisingly small amount of douches and piles of laughs and beers. Blah, my brain isn't working, just come next time. Also, pretty sure Josh Homme impregnated me at least three times with the power of the sex music. GINGER ELVIS FOREVER!!

Hope you all had a great time! Thanks for the glowsticks Davers, it was awesome throwing/giving all those out. Apparently a bear got into the general camping area and tore open a tent and generally caused a rucus. See you next year! You can't just come up in here and drop that knowledge that Squamish had a Party Bear and get out of here without telling us more of the party bear. Was he fuzzy?

Apparently he walked into one of the side gates in the general camping and got into a tent after the food, then wandered about before being herded out. The organizers had a bear coordinator and team so I think it was well planned for.
I heard there were lots outside the grounds the whole time, drawn by the smells etc. but they generally didn't want to come in.
We left out lots of food as well, and I was watching people throw pans of fat and grease around the perimeter, total bear bait!

Haha. They prepared for bears but not for people.

There's more bears than people in Canada anyway, so this makes perfect sense.
But for serious, the lack of preparedness upon check-in made me very worried about next year. Hopefully they get their act together, but if they couldn't check in 5000 campers with any sort of order, how do they plan to do nearly 10000 next year? Mailing out wristbands would be a huge step forward, so hopefully they go for that.

I heard they will be mailed, like Sasquatch. I think this year would have been alot smoother if only the bands worked. My original GA band never ended up working, at any scanner. I got a vip band on Friday though and that worked like a charm There was also a ticket issue, all the presale and some of the regular home printed tickets didn't get entered in the database properly and therefore wouldn't scan, they had one woman with the ability to manually enter the numbers and give a wristband, between all the people coming through. We were at the parking lot at 11:30 and it took about an hour, the regular camping cars were already lined to the highway though. As far as other organization goes, I think things were pretty smooth, could do with some more garbage and definitely more recycling in the glamping and I assume camping areas. Last year there were alot more bins and things didn't get as messy.

Next year I'm going to Squamish dressed as a silly old bear, going to raid people's camps for bacon grease and scraps and make the Bear Containment team come out and try and take me on. It's going to get so fucking weird.

Favourite shows: Dan Mangan- suck my dick. This was the best I've seen him, and you can bet I've seen him a lot. He was on cloud 9 the whole show and his energy was infectious, GOGOOOOL BORDELLLLOOOO, diamond rings and vampire weekend. QOTSA and pretty lights were both great but I was just too tired to really enjoy it.

Also, it was absolutely wonderful to get to see you guys. I was a bit off since I've been so exhausted from moving, but last weekend was such a needed break. I don't know when I'll be able to get out to another West coast fest, so thanks for making this one so wonderful

Some interesting updates on the Squamish fest site, but this one kinda saddens me:
"ARE YOU OFFERING GLAMPING OR VIP CAMPING THIS YEAR?
Currently we have no plans to offer glamping or VIP camping this year. If you’re interested in a bigger camping area, consider purchasing two camping sites."
However, it looks like they're really trying to improve the overall camping situation this year.
eta: Actually, I've been reading through the site some more and there's a few things I don't really like the sound of, especially:
"We’re pleased to announce that Squamish Festival 2014 is a fully cashless festival."
and
"DO I HAVE TO ACTIVATE MY WRISTBAND?
Yes. When you receive your wristband(s) in the mail closer to the festival, each pass holder needs to head to the registration website to activate and personalize their wristband. You can add credit to your account, and unlock lots of cool stuff at the same time."
With all the horror stories I heard about the wristband/cash idea they tried last year and the mandatory service charge involved, I'm not excited about the idea of being required to load up my wristband just in case I wanna buy a water or pack of gum...
And this whole required activating of your wristband sounds like an extremely alienating idea for those festival goers that aren't into that kinda thing or tech-savvy or just plain not good at reading and following rules. Plus, boy are they trying to become the Coachella of the north, eh? I mean, we're even gonna get our wristbands mailed "along with various goodies" this year (think: the collector's box with stickers/pins Coachella sends).

I still haven't gotten back my $20 or so that was supposed to be refunded and I just now remembered that, thanks Squamish. That sucks on the no glamping this year. It sounds like they might be doing allocated spots (like Coachella) instead of just a "fuck you" free for all where anarchy reigns?

They say that, but that doesn't mean it will happen. Pemberton had marked out 10x10 spots (for 20,000 people), and that lasted all of a couple hours before it became a free for all.
Mailed wristbands will be a huge help since that was the main bottleneck upon check in last year.
This somewhat sucks. Since I have no idea if there is any difference I'm going to to for the circle campground since anyone who picks diamond will probably expect it to be somehow better. Yay for judging people.

Hmm, there's some interesting stuff there. So there will be assigned spots. And it looks like they're working on what was one of the main complaints I heard after last year's fest. I'm sad I'm not going to this. If it was Thursday/Friday/Saturday like last year I would consider coming up for the first two days and heading back down for the wedding on Saturday but as it is it's just not worth it.

Someone on the Coachella board is claiming that Bruno Mars will headline. I looked at his tour dates, and it does actually look pretty possible. Seriously Squamish? You haven't always had the best lineups (looking at you 2012) but at least it seemed like you were trying. Now it just seems like you turned on the radio for 5 minutes and picked the first 2 artists you heard (Bruno Mars and Arcade Fire).
This person also claimed Eminem would be the third headliner, which I would probably be ok with mostly because I doubt he will be at any other festivals I'm going to. It also seems like a really weird choice since this festival is geared somewhat towards families and few artists piss of suburban parents more than Eminem.

It doesn't sound like they're mailing the camping wristbands though so we'll still have to line up for that, but hopefully already having your festival wristband will alleviate some of the backlog of cars that happened last year. I think circle campground is the way to go as well based on the maps they've put up; it looks to be about 5 minutes closer to the site. Although, the Diamond campground looks a little bigger and it says you're only allowed to visit the campground you have a wristband for which could cause problems if some of the group has camping in the other field. It's weird that the campgrounds are across the highway though -- I'm just thinking about all the drunk people trying to cross back and forth. I'm pretty disappointed we won't be able to do the glamping though; I really liked just popping back to the tent for a drink or whatever and being able to sit at camp and listen to the music. On the new map, it looks like the VIP/Meadow stage area is the old glamping area: click to see map.
