I take drugs because they feel awesome and I like to fucking party. Hasn't really affected my life in any meaningful way. I was a happy well-adjusted dude before and I still am.
However, I do believe that drugs can have a profound, life-altering effect on people and to discredit the potential for that change would be naive.
I've also seen a friend hug a tree for 12 hours, shit his pants and break his brain on LSD. He's never been the same.
As Ro put, to each their own.

Hahahaha yeah I agree and wouldn't discredit the effect drugs have for some.
My personal bias, though, is that if someone is having a difficult time, developing betting coping behaviours and thought patterns is in the very least an important first step. I would have a hard time with anyone whose first response to stress or depression is to do drugs.

Drugs were like my 15th response to what was going on and they totally worked. Coachella gave me electrorock therapy and I started doing awesome things. Now I'm just trying to make amends with people and just do drugs once in a while cause they are like totally cool, man.

Nah. Do it while you're young and still in a position to have your perspective of the universe and your existence changed for the better. In my undergrad I remember reading a neat study done at Johns Hopkins on psilocybin that demonstrated that those individuals in the experimental group (that got the psilocybin) that had an out of body experience were less depressed six months later. Interesting stuff. In my undergrad I remember reading a neat study done at Johns Hopkins on psilocybin that demonstrated that those individuals in the experimental group (that got the psilocybin) that had an out of body experience were less depressed six months later. Interesting stuff. Acid saved me from religion and made me realize that it's OK that we're all so insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I used cry in bed as a little kid because I was so scared of what happens when I die, but I can honestly say that psychedelics put me at peace with every single one of those negative thoughts that were still in my head going into young adulthood. Positive drug stories FTW! It's freaky how closely this mirrors my experience. I still can't think too hard about death or I start to panic, but before my experiences with drugs I was angry at religion and felt a constant dread about my life. After a few incredible psychedelic experiences my life was put into perspective, and all of my relationships improved. I still get sad but I don't slip into the deep sadness I felt before. I also do drugs to fucking party once in a while, but I can have a lot of fun without them. I don't think I'll need to do more hallucinogenics for therapy because the first few experiences balanced me out so much. And I did them to get away from my problems, not to confront them. But I understand being afraid of them, because they're powerful and you need to be ready to accept what's going to happen to you.

Not afriad at all, if the proper situation arose, there are few drugs I wouldn't be open to trying.
But not for therapeutic reasons. I'm lucky that I'm in a really great place right now.

I was also very young when this happened, like 18-20. Anyway, Roger Sterling knows how much help you can find in a good trip.

I've been turned in to a bit of a skeptic when it comes to drugs. The only thing that has actually been a noticeable high for me was weed. Psilocybin didn't affect me at all that I could tell. I've also tried mdma and ecstasy, but they were both very subtle. I know they aren't hallucinogenics, but I didn't feel very different at all, just less tired and more happy.

I have never been in a better place, either. Some things suck. Like some people aren't down to make amends and my family is still a clustercuss but it's literally going to balance. It just is. Yay for everyone being happy!

I'm glad you appear to be in a good place Ro. Yeah, it sucks when you want to make amends and others dont, but I guess thats part of life. Gotta respect others wishes, amirite?

I love drugs. I wouldn't say any have had a profound impact on my life past me pushing use to the limit and learning how to better control myself. So in a way, they have forced a lot of self discovery for sure.

For reasons such as they are fun and I like to party, and because they have enriched my life and opened my mind to a lot of different things. I am so glad I took LSD but I waited until my mid twenties for no other reason than I knew I would know it was the right time when it happened. And it did.

LSD helped me figure out how to control my anxiety. Sometimes during an acid trip, a moment will come where you feel a little weird and you realize you're going to have whatever chemical in you for the next 4-6 hours and you have to decide to either freak out or not -- and it's that simple. It really is your choice. So you just say naw, I'm not going to go that way, I'm going to relax and have fun. And it works.
Then I realized that it works pretty much the same way when you're sober. You just gotta keep in touch with how you're feeling.
God bless that crazy shit.
