Not sure if I have really brought it up, but the Idaho State legislature is currently working on passing a bill explicitly targeted at kicking Occupy Boise out of their indefinite vigil site across the street from the capitol building. Tonight, Occupy Boise's Legal Team received the following:
Occupy Boise's Legal Team has received the following:
A letter from Boise Chief of Police Mike Masterson this evening -- wherein he and Colonel Jerry Russel (the head of the Idaho State Police) thanked Occupy Boise for its historic and on-going, law-abiding, peaceful demonstrations of civic responsibilities. They support our First Amendment Rights! This runs directly counter to the fear-mongering coming from some in the legislature and the Department of Administration.
Chief Masterson also stated that the Boise Police Department will REFUSE to participate in the seizure of any private property as contemplated in the proposed bill. He correctly noted that the Federal Civil Rights Act protects citizens from this type of governmental abuse of authority. He further stated that the "indemnification" language in the bill -- which would supposedly protect any government employee or contractor from private lawsuits stemming from such illegal seizures -- will likely NOT be recognized by a court of law.
This letter will be handed out to the Senators in the Senate State Affairs Committee tomorrow morning!
THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE!!!
