Awesome pick, souly! I still haven't heard these guys, so this will be a great excuse to finally check them out.

Great pick! Starfucker's was one of my top albums of 2011 and I loved their set at Bumbershoot last year, which I was completely sober for so I can't wait to see them again in a different state of mind.

I am still trying to fully appreciate Starfucker. My little brother likes them a lot so I haven't given up on them because I trust my brother's taste in music (he got his ear for music from me of course).
I do own Reptilians, like actually own it legally, because I bought a shirt for my brother for X-mas and got the album for free. The first couple listens of this album had me thinking, 'meh just another synth pop "indie" band'. Recently though I have begun to appreciate them a little more. I am not blown away by them but I do like to throw on this album when I need some good background music while partying or something. Every once in a while I will hear a little melody that makes my ears perk up but other than that they are just okay in my opinion.
I will definitely be at their set though because my brother saw them last year and said the live show was wild. I know he will want to see them again so I will be there as well. So Souly, I will see you there!
I think my favorite songs are Mystery Cloud (reminds me of old NES music like Mega Man or something) and the S/T track because of it's guitar arrangements.

Originally I wanted to write about Mogwai or Explosions in the Sky because those are the bands on the lineup whose music I have enjoyed the most in my life, and who I think will put on the most powerful shows of this year's festival. However, for two reasons I have decided to go a different direction: 1. The magnitude and intensity of their shows can't really be put into words. 2. I realized that there is an artist whom I am very excited to see, but haven't ever noticed being mentioned on this board other than in every one of my "Meow Playing" posts. newjersey confirmed it with his rating of our top 10's; I am REAL excited to see this guy: "This guy" I speak of is Cass McCombs. Badass motherfucker, right? Not really. He's kind of a softie, singer-songwriter type. I got into Cass in high school when his first album A came out because John Peel told me I should, calling him "unobtrusively brilliant". I have always trusted John Peel's advice, which is funny when you consider at the time I was primarily taking his advice in listening to insane mindfuck bands like Lightning Bolt and Melt-Banana. For some reason I instantly became obsessed with the organs on that album, and further investigation led me to be captivated by his vocal melodies and guitar riffs. The rest is history. I've been loving his 2011 album Wit's End the most lately, but that one is a slow burner, even by Cass's standards. Because I don't want y'all to think I'm a sad sappy sucker, I decided to go with it's predecessor; a much more well-rounded album that encompasses his acoustic and electric arrangements, as well as the one that he has been playing the most songs from on tour recently: The album is called Catacombs. First of all, can we all not agree that this cover art is awesome. It is a scientific fact that all albums with awesome covers therefor contain awesome music. Awesome music such as: and and and OK, so that last one is from Wit's End, but there aren't anymore Catacombs videos and that's a damn good tune that he'll more than likely play, too. Other choice Catacombs tracks include "Don't Vote", "Harmonia", "My Sister, My Spouse" and "Lionkiller Got Married". This guy's gonna tear up the Yeti stage Why? style...maybe a bit softer. I hope to recruit some of you fine folks to join me for his set after giving this album a couple spins. grooveshark.com/#!/album/Catacombs/3361459

Good choice! I've actually listened to Catacombs and loved it. He played at Pitchfork when I went a couple years ago, but I missed it like a dummy. I'll just have to make up for it this time around.

Sweet pick J. I love Cass McCombs. I saw him for free here at HSB last fall but it was a really short set. I'm hoping for more at Sasquatch. McCombs is a guy whose music takes a lot of focus and energy to digest but is completely worth it.

I am leaving on a mini-road trip so posting this one a little early. Cloud Cult is one of those bands that I have been wanting to see for a long time but every time that they come by I am not in the area. They have been ever so elusive. I was ecstatic when the line-up was announced and they were included. I don’t think that there could be a conflict that would lead me to not see them. The first album that I listened to from Cloud Cult was Advice From The Happy Hippopotamus. That is the reason for my choice for album of the week. Here is a link to a Grooveshark playlist for the album grooveshark.com/#!/album/Advice+From+The+Happy+Hippopotamus/261409 Those are just a few songs that I wanted to spotlight but really I love the entire album. I hope you enjoy! Attachments:

I never understood why they changed the artwork for that album. I liked the doofy CG thing it used to be a lot better. ...as far as that goes, why EVER change an album's artwork? Other notable examples are Byrne/Eno's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and Modest Mouse's The Moon and Antarctica, and never has the revised artwork been at all better than the original. Oh well.
