I only ever heard that Ffunny Ffrends song on Pitchfork or something. I dig it enough to check this out. I also did not even see their name on the lineup, that's like the 10 band I've done that with meow.

I don't know much I can quite convey how much I love this album. Such a great choice Friendly. After hearing FFunny FFriends and loving it, I know I was in for a good listen. And then I come to find out that even though that song is great, it is my least favorite song on the album. Thank you again for this Friendly.
I don't think I've loved that kinda AM sound quality as much in a recording as much as I do in this either. I think I'm now willing to miss almost anything to catch this set.

Also, that album cover fits the music perfectly.

Also this reminds me of a much dancier version of Thee Oh Sees (especially in "Nerve Damage!"), who were kinda number one on my Sasquatch wish list, so this makes this even better.

Gah! I got two songs in 3 hours ago and my Internet gave up. I watched a movie thinking it would be back when I was done but no luck! I can tell I'm going to like it though!

Also, that album cover fits the music perfectly. The cover is the reason I decided to check this album out. Once upon a time I did a whole lotta backpacking throughout Europe and found out that many of the former Soviet satellite countries decided to keep their old Communist monuments and place them in parks. I was almost obsessed with wanting to see every single goddamn one of them because they were all so weird, simple, and somehow totally futuristic. It felt like they were left behind by an alien race. The monument shown on the cover Unknown Mortal Orchestra is in Croatia (Petrova Gora). It's pretty far off the typical tourist route, but I was hellbent on gettin' to see it as I'd heard it was the "mother of all the monuments" after visiting a monument park in Budapest. Now, I realize the horrors and oppression that many of these monuments carry for the people that had to endure those time so I'm not trying to romanticize their beauty. It's just as a foreigner you are hit with this unrelatable sense of wonderment to see this piece of propaganda staring at you in the face. The Balkans definitely had some of the most insane monuments. Evey time I strolled down a park path and watched one slowly reveal itself I couldn't help but feel like one of those damn monkeys from 2001:A Space Odessy. Y'all need to check these out. trendland.net/spomenik-yugoslavian-abandoned-monuments/#

I'm glad you guys liked the pick! I was kinda in a bummer of a mood last night (though, that mood flipped right turned upside down before the night was through) so I just want to say what I should've said yesterday:

Also, on that link of monuments, I swear I've seen one of those on an album cover before.

Those things are incredible. The scenery they are displayed in is also pretty wild.

I'm a day early, but I'll be on tour from tomorrow to next Friday, so I'd rather go ahead and get this done beforehand. This was a bit difficult, as I tried to go for an album that I know well yet other people probably haven't listened to, but staying within the confines of the Sasquatch lineup makes that difficult to do. Musically, all my choices would be an album by a newer band that everybody's heard before, or a Beck album which everybody's heard before. So I decided to go a bit of a different route: I don't want to go into this too much, since, as the old saying goes, "investigation kills comedy." But I'll put a few notes for my selection of this album and other things. -I chose this album because I felt it was the most consistent and it also has the most music related material, which I felt appropriate for this board. It's his first album, so, as he explains in a much different light at the beginning of the album, it's somewhat of a "greatest hits" album of his material up to that point, since he'd been going a good 5-8 years before this album came out. -If you aren't too keen on this album upon first listen, give it one more try. I realize this is a weird thing to say about a comedy album, but Todd Barry can be somewhat of an acquired taste. -Todd Barry is an exception to the rule that Sasquatch artists never collaborate. In '09 he did a set with Jon Benjamin on top of his solo set, which also had Aziz Ansari come up to demonstrate "wineboarding." In '10, he had Zooey Deschanel introduce his set (which was weird seeing Zooey Deschanel on stage in front of only about 40 people in the Banana Shack), and he played a few songs with the New Pornographers that night. -Be ready for the dryest of dry comedians. -Though it may not be as evident on his albums, since they are focusing mostly on prepared material, he is amazing at dealing with hecklers/crowd work/etc. His sharp improvisational wit kills. You'll hear a bit of that on the album too. EDIT: Here's the link I forgot: grooveshark.com/#!/album/Medium+Energy/263003

Also, interesting fact: Todd Barry played possibly the most disturbing character Tim and Eric have written in Tom Goes to the Mayor, Joy's ex-husband Saul.

Also this reminds me of a much dancier version of Thee Oh Sees (especially in "Nerve Damage!"), who were kinda number one on my Sasquatch wish list, so this makes this even better. I hear what you're talking about in some of the guitar tones throughout the album, but one of the things I like most about Thee Oh Sees is they don't seem to give a fuck if anybody wants to dance. So in that sense it's like The anti-Oh Sees, and it makes me wish I was listening to them instead. I could see this set being fun, but more likely it will just remind me that I'm not watching The Oh Sees. Thanks a lot Lumpy.

Fuuuuuuuuck yes. I've listened to this album 1000 times. It's fucking brilliant. Okay, maybe only 100 times. Probably more like 150. Regardless, Todd is a comedic genius and this album rivals "Mitch All Together" as my favorite comedy album of the 21st century. I missed him with the New Pornographers. Did he play bongos?

Yo (Yo) Lump (Lump), you should post a link for the Todd Barry album so's that we can all find the hilarity while using minimal effort!
I've always seen Todd Barry in other stuff, but never on his own. Very outside-the-square thinking on a comedy album for AotW. Can't wait to hear this.
