That seems to be the problem with modern day electronic artists. They grow up as bedroom music producers, not disc jockeys with mixing skills. Artists like Skrillex and are brilliant with a heaping pile of computers and producing equipment, but really have no training when it comes to performing.

It's because the tools of the trade have evolved. DJ'ing back in the day used to be expensive with turntables, a mixer and buying vinyl. But it was nowhere near as expensive as the gear used to produce music such as multiple keyboards, drum machines, compressors, etc etc. Now it's kind of reversed somewhat. Now you can produce studio quality songs with a laptop and some software. DJ'ing can still be done with less cost and equipment these days, but still requires a little bit of gear.

He is a garbage performer though. My opinion is totally bias because I used to DJ and I know that what he does on stage takes little to no skill...... unless you consider chain smoking and stage diving a skill. The other problem I have with Skrillex is that every Skrillex song is every Skrillex song. I do agree he's a good producer, just wish he would expand his horizons somewhat. And learn how to beatmix or something.

Important serious question.. How do artists like Amon Tobin have light shows that are synchronized with the music? How could they do anything live because if they did it would not match the lights. Unless the lighting guy lives like 30 seconds in the future or something. Or maybe the whole thing is super rehearsed and if he does something wrong the music won't match the pre planned lights. I don't get it.

I don't get it. DJs control the lights / visuals as well as the music, and the software they use makes sure that things are in sync. So it's definitely pre-planned to some extent, but it can also be set up to allow for improvisation at certain points in time. It's not like they "pre-set" the entire show and hit play; it's more like they pre-match the visuals to the music, and when they mix into the track, the lighting / visuals automatically follow if they have a sophisticated setup. DJs at a regular club on a regular night also control the lights / visuals, but generally have to do a lot more of it "manually" than a pre-planned DJ show. That's somewhat oversimplified, but should give you an idea.

That's amazing. I thought of that, but I didn't think something like that would be possible. Especially with Amon Tobin's projector thingy. I guess that makes more sense then the lighting guy living in the future.

Identity festival is going to happen again this year. There was speculation of it not happening recently. There is no info besides the fact it is going to happen, and there are only 15 stops this time instead of 20.

Paul Van Dyk just released a new studio album. I'm really hoping to see him on the ID bill. Hell, put him in the Paradiso lineup and I'll buy a ticket tomorrow.

I really wish I appreciated him more last year. I only managed to catch about 15 minutes of his Coachella set, but he absolutely blew me away. Probably in my top 3 of all of the EDM sets all weekend.

PVD only has a few dates scheduled in the U.S. Something big like ID may explain why he isn't releasing more dates after an album release. If PVD is on ID and they decide to skip the Gorge I will be bummed. PVD at the Gorge would be beyond epic.

That would definitely explain why he's playing Vancouver in 2 weeks but skipping Seattle. Hmmmm!!
