I just read through the Wolfgang Gartner thread from Coachella 2010 and it seems the general consensus was that he put on one of the best DJ sets of the weekend that year. I'm getting more and more excited to see him destroy the Shack!

Unfotunately, that's the way the genre is. I've said it before on here and I'll say it again. In the EDM world, the single is king, followed by the EP, with the album a distant third. Witness that Skrillex won a grammy for an album with Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites which was technically an EP, not a full album. The good news is some artists do put out solid albums and once you discover them it's easy to continue exploring their work. They also tend to the the ones with some staying power, like the Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk. Very well put. I'll also add onto it a bit more from the aspect of a former DJ. I think the reason the single was and still is king (for now) was simply due to the medium of the music. It was all vinyl back in the day. It was big and it was expensive. DJ records typically held 2-4 tracks per record. There were also no CDJ's, no final scratch, serrato, abelton etc etc. You couldn't make an mp3 and then send it out Producers would make a track and then get it pressed onto a dubplate acetate record. They would then shop that record around to DJs to play and get the song out there. Then they would send it and get it pressed on vinyl for distribution. To the consumer a record would cost $10-$20 and a full album or EP could run as high as $100. So putting out full albums was a huge costs to both the artist (or label) and the consumer. So tracks would just get popped out a couple songs at a time. Now you're starting to see artists come out with more albums because it is much more convieniant to get the music out there to the market of listeners. DJs don't have to go to the record store every week to thumb through the new shipments of records. You can simply download music off beatport and other websites. Producers can easily send their new songs off to other performers and have the music market tested with ease before an actual release. Finally I think you'll start to see more albums simply because the genre is becoming more popular. Seeing artists like Skrillex and mau5 nominated for grammys proves that. Because of the increase of demand and the reduced amount of effort to create the music, artists will be pumping out more music and albums.

I think that one is working. The one that was a dead end was the one frush posted. Mah bad! Is that the Tomorrowland link? I just read through the Wolfgang Gartner thread from Coachella 2010 and it seems the general consensus was that he put on one of the best DJ sets of the weekend that year. I'm getting more and more excited to see him destroy the Shack! It was, I had listened to a few of his songs prior to the festival, but that set is where I truly discovered him. He played until sunset and then Pretty Lights came on. ;D

Does the Essential mix have a bunch of radio crap on it for you guys or did I get a weird one?

Yep. The Essential Mixes are recorded from BBC-1 artist sessions.

Okie! Thanks! I wanted to play it at work, because people don't really listen and I can sneak a bit of profanity in there. With the recorded voice warning about the profanity I probably won't get away with it though.

It only warns you at the start of the show. You could clip the mp3 so that part doesn't play.

I actually kind of like it when they chirp in with, "Esssssential essssential esssssential essssential" throughout the mix.

The real funny part is that I don't think I've ever actually heard them swear on an essential mix before.

Rolled up a lil sumthin and started listening to the Little People album "Micky Mouse Operation". Pretty impressed so far. Definitely going to try to catch their set.

Little People sounded great on the few youtube videos I checked out. I really appreciate that Sasquatch hasn't gone the cheap route by booking a whole bunch of cheese house and grimy derpstep artists to fill the entire EDM lineup. A DnB artist sure would be a treat of an addition, though!
