...Because Canadians like music just like Americans, and it's close to Canada.
Its the same as me taking a 14 hour road trip for Coachella, I like music and I will travel to see it.

I think I answered that question with my second short paragraph.
BC basically has 2 major festivals, Shambhala and the fledgling Live at Squamish festival. Neither of which draw a huge number of indie bands. One of them is almost entirely EDM for 3 days and the other just doesn't seem to pull in many big names at all. (OK they got Weezer this year)
Alberta has Sled Island which seems to focus on the straight up radio rock.
In short, Canadian Indie Kids go to the nearest Indie Festival.

I definitely wouldn't describe sled island as focusing on Radio Rock. And maybe don't say that too loudly on here, as Quartermass (even though he isn't on here anymore) is one of the head hanchos of sled island.

Unless I'm mistaken, Sled Island doesn't really have any radio rock at all, it's all local or indie isn't it?

I'm obviously confused. What's the fest that Sublime is playing? ***edit*** My bad. www.boonstock.ca/lineup.htmSled Island's line-up looks interesting actually. Is it all shows at different bars through-out the city?

Yeah sled island is basically all indie stuff- and it is dispersed around venues in Calgary- it's actually a pretty neat little festival if you're a real scenester. I however am not- so I'll probably only see a couple of shows at it. I am however going to this around the same time- which makes me excited, even though it is kinda lame. www.scfair.ab.ca/Who/tabid/63/Default.aspxQuartermass is indeed alive and kicking- running a small record label, organizing music stuff, and playing in 2 or 3 bands that get a reasonable amount of coverage over here in the indie scene- he's kinda the kind of southern alberta.

My friend and I saw a meteor when I was walking back to the campground, Friday night, after the concerts. There was a guy in premier camping that was looking over the fence and said, "AM I THE ONLY ONE SEEING THIS?!", and I tried to answer him but he had jumped down and I couldnt see him anymore. I asked almost everyone I met and no one had seen it. People were trying to tell us that it was a paper lantern, I was not that fucked up people! It was a meteor. I swear. Did anyone see it?? ANYONE?

I know I saw the paper lanterns -- which wasn't actually confirmed until I read it on here since the people I was with at the time all said I was just very high -- but I didn't see any meteors or shooting stars.

I saw the paper lanterns too. They were so awesome! Ha ha yeah, that would've really freaked me out if I had been really high, it would've been mind blowing. Ha Ha Ha

I actually congratulate HG on getting my friend & I confused. You must have been having an AWESOME night because that's really hard to do. What I remember is a gaggle of sloppy girls complaining about EVERYTHING their minds could conjure being babysat by Miss Coley, who was clearly the only one of you who had her shit together. If my ability to distinguish between faded twenty year old girls that I'm meeting for the first time isn't what it used to be, then I consider that a point of pride. Anyway, I was perfectly sober by that point. Ol' Switchy was the one who was being ridiculous.

what i'll remember most about my meeting with Miss Coley is that she REALLY hates littering. I witnessed her tackling a couple of festival goers who didn't properly dispose of their soy joy wrappers.
INTENSE.

(pretty sure I also ended up with a pair of those glasses everyone was passing around. Or were those Friendly's?) Wolfhat gave me an extra pair and you guys were behind me so I gave them to you. By the way, your jungle juice was tasty.

Cute little party girls.Cute little girls are really the goal of life and this is pretty apparent everywhere you look at Sasq. It’s hard for me to understand how many cute girls go to this event. Seriously it’s like everyone locked the ugly at home. You really can’t go wrong in this respect and if you didn’t bring one along they’re almost as available as glow sticks at a Bassnector set. Just pick on up and throw it about. Sometimes you are just stuck in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some anticipation for sets results in extended periods stuck in the center of crowds that just get tighter and tighter. Mix this with a Foxy little girl and you just might find yourself dragging said little girl out of there unconscious screaming “party causuality” imagining that this will be the final moment in your entire party career. Having some chick die on you at an electronic dance music show. You know the scene in Pulp Fiction where Mia overdoses after railing that heroin? Yeah that was pretty much the scene going on. Same feeling, same vibe. Luckily the stage manager was watching and threw down some water. A little mouth to mouth resuscitation and she was back with the living. This is creepy. Especially calling women "little girls."
