I see the Lips at least every eighteen months or so, but I haven't heard them play "The Gash" in almost ten years; some of those songs never. This isn't going to be same ol' same ol'. Amen. I have only seen them play "Waiting for Superman" and "Race for the Prize". This should be amazing. Also I'm guessing I was at the same show Abominable was at the second Malkin Bowl show. I had a great time but something was a bit off that night. Also Wayne seemed a little too needy for love that show. I much preferred the first time they played that venue.

Wayne's neediness for love is completely over the top these days. WAY over the top. It was at the point where I actually felt embarrassment for him, watching him. It would hold the show up for five minutes at a time.
We saw them here in Portland right before Embryonic came out; in spite of a good set list a lot of the more road-worn oldies were starting to sound a little tired and Wayne's burgeoning diva behavior left me feeling a little cold. They did play "Bad Days" and "Unconsciously Screamin" (!!!!!), but if I never hear that dirge-like lullaby version of "Yoshimi pt. 1" again I'd die happy. Ridiculously indulgent.

My girlfriend at one point during the show asked why he has such low self esteem. Maybe at the start everyone can just yell "We love you Wayne" and he will not feel the need to ask between every song.

You're right, I was at that show. I also saw them a few years earlier at the first Malkin Bowl show where I thought Black Moth Super Rainbow upstaged them as an opener... but BMSR is one of my favorite bands.

Looking at Yeasayer's recent setlists, the only songs they are playing currently that I care about at all are "2080", "Wait for the Summer" and "Tightrope", and it looks like they load those all into the first half of their set. It's too bad because I really love those songs, but since they'll probably be played during the Flaming Lips' set I can now skip Yeasayer entirely. That's fair, but I can't take standard setlists completely seriously for festival shows. Festivals tend to bring out the songs the bands want to play just as much as the crowd wants to hear. Am I going to hear Red Cave? Probably not, but it would make the entire conflict worth it. Hell 2080 would as well.

Eh, I bet the All Hour Cymbals tunes will be played in the style of Odd Blood anyway.

I've seen Yeasayer twice (well, thrice, but I don't really count their early afternoon sasquatch set) and it was like night and day. The first time was soon after their first album blew up on Pitchfork and I didn't think the show was anything special. The second time was a couple years later and it became obvious right away that they were much more polished live musicians. They did things to deviate from the album that worked extremely well, and I left amazed that it was the same band I had seen previously.

I first saw them play a little tour with MGMT in Jan 07 and luckily I only paid $10 or so, so I wasn't upset by being cheated, but flash forward almost two years to November 08' and they were incredible.

hate me all you want for this... but I think I'm more excited seeing Yeasayer play 2080 live than I am seeing the The Flaming Lips play just about any of their songs... not named She Don't Use Jelly.

That was a wicked good song. I really like Anand Wilder's songs; I think it is the songs that other guy - Chris Keating? - writes that I really can't stand.
