I have a dumb question. I know its a dumb question and I know that no one will have a definite answer, but I'm going to ask it anyway. The site says no video equipment, but I'm sorely tempted to bring an old Super 8 camera and trying to get it into the grounds. I want to do this NOT because I think it will provide a loophole to the 'no video equipment' rule, but because I think the Sasquatch experience will look INCREDIBLE on super 8 film. As I understand the spirit of the rule is to not have people profiting from the festival. This would be just me with a tiny camera rolling footage for personal use (or maybe film class). I realize my success factor will rely primarily on convincing the checker that its OK. If not, I have to hoof it to the car and back (not much fun with early starts on Sat & Sun, but I can deal with that outcome). BUT, assuming I can get it through the gate. Is every other guard on the grounds going to give me shit for it once its out and rolling? Will they confiscate it? Make me take it back to the car and miss out on the rest of the music that day? This is my biggest worry. I'd really like to know what the worst case scenario is here. How fucked am I if they decide I'm breaking the rules? Thanks in advance for any input on this. PS - I realize most of you don't know what these look like, so here you go. Its handheld - about the size of a hardcover book, but a bit heavier.

I have no answers for you, but if you DO get footage recorded with that, is there a way for you to get it onto a computer? I would love to see how it turns out!

Yes! There are services that transfer to digital formats so you can edit/play on a computer. (Its basically just recording a projection, but it works fine).
If successful, I'll definitely share it here!

Awesome idea. I would email ahead of time and explain it is for a film class, you might get someone who appreciates the idea and helps you out. Never hurts to ask.
If nothing else, take it down to document your campsite experience.

Don't get your Super 8 confiscated by yellowshirts, dude. That would suck, and it would probably happen.
I support what you're trying to do; it would be really neat. That thing's a treasure, though, and I wouldn't risk losing it.

Well, that's discouraging. Now that I'm considering the threat of rain as well, it seems more and more like a bad idea.
I think I will try to email them and see how that goes. Thanks for all the feedback!

If you have a nice case for it and a car you can reliably lock it in, then I dont see why you couldn't at least bring it to the campground and do as Abominable suggested.
Hell, I would almost RATHER see your videos of the campground from that thing than the actual shows.

I saw dozens of people last year with DSLR cameras last year that were deffinently not with any sort of media.
We were sitting on the grass far from the Bigfoot stage eating some snacks when we had nothing to see and a guy (with an animal hat, friend of yours wolfy?) walked up and asked if he could sit with us for a second so he could look more natural while he pulled the booze from his crotch and his DLSR camera from his bag.
His plan with the DSLR was to put a bunch of stuff in the bag that looked like it could be banned in outside pockets to throw then off. He had advil in a ziploc bag and small golf pencils (i guess to seem like joints?) in outside pockets and his camera was wrapped in a hoodie near the bottom of the bag. This way it feels soft on the bottom and they might find the pills and whatnot first, then give up when they see it is all good and legal stuff and not search too hard.
I would go this route rather than openly try to bring it in. If they find it and tell you no go, plead ignorance, run back to your car and store it safely. You really dont have much to lose by trying to sneak it in as they wont kick you out for trying to bring in something you thought was ok.
And if they ask why it was wrapped in a hoodie just say it was to protect it, and not to hide it from them.

We do have a professional photographer in the group but he definitely has a press pass every year. He's usually my ride down and I feel like he would have mentioned the Advil/golf pencils thing to me which he didn't. Do you remember what animal he was? Or anything else about him? I like this guy's commitment to the smuggle.
EDIT: Oh, and about the Super 8: I wouldn't bring it in if I were the OP. Even if you were to convince the people at the gate to let you bring it in, I'd be worried that another Gorge goon would see it and get bent out of shape and either try and confiscate it or kick me out. Once you're in there's no re-entry so it wouldn't be as simple as walking back to camp, dropping it off, and coming back. It could really ruin your day.
