Nahh, we can't discover them all on our own. That's what places like this are for. Hell, I hadn't ever listened to more than 30 seconds of Bjork in my lifetime before the Burrito showed up and gave me a million reasons to bring her into my life. Amen to this. It takes help to find the good shit.

Have you guys heard of this dude Merzbow? Fucking legendary shit.
He is largely responsible for why I have yet to give Tom Waits the time of day.

Hehe, yeah. As far as I know, Merzbow and Sun Ra are in competition for the largest discographies in history, which has a good deal to do with why I like 'em both so much.
My entry point was Animal Magnetism circa 2003, but that's really just because I got into Merz in 2003. His output is all over the damn place, but I feel like a lot of work from his "laptop era" of 2000-present could be appreciated by the most open-minded of EDM fans. Have you heard Wolfgang Voigt's project: Gas? Merz uses a lot of the same style of underlying ambient techno beats, and then layers them with all kinds of crazy awesome noisy sounds from homemade instruments, endless effects pedals, chickens, etc. In the last few years he has reintroduced a drum kit into his work, which for me is the icing on the cake.

Don't throw Waits and Cave at me at the same time you guys; I can't handle it. Tom Waits for nobody, get on that ASAP.
