I am lost now that my Zune is dead. Trying to figure out what to buy next. I might opt to get an iPhone or Windows phone, but I currently roll with this phone (see image) and I'd like to keep it that way.

I use an iPhone. It's nice having one device for the multiple tasks.
What you have is great though in that it keeps you from spending the extra money and data and all that other stuff that comes with owning a PDA.

Yeah, I have an iPhone too, and it really is nice having one device that acts as a phone, mp3 player, and internet browser. If you have the choice, you should go with an Android phone though. The iPhone is pretty much the only smart phone my carrier supports so my options were limited. It's funny because I find the iPhone pretty good in general, but the actual "phone" function is pretty dismal. I have some friends with HTC's and Samsung models and I like them a lot more. The screen on the iPhone 4 is superior, but the functions and customization on the other phones are top notch. Plus you don't have to deal with fucking Apple.
If you strictly want to keep phone and media player separate, I recommend getting an iPod classic. I have one, and the screen is a little small and there's no touch screen, but it holds all my music and many video files too. Great because you don't have to sync it or change the media all the time, and since I don't have a laptop it was ideal for when I went traveling for a few months. When I bought it, it definitely seemed better than the Zune, but I don't know anything about the ZuneHD. I assume that one is more akin to the iPhone Touch, which is a great little device but also the most expensive media player available.
Long story short: get a smart phone. If you are concerned with the cost of data plans or just otherwise don't like the idea, don't.

if you're happy with your phone, keep your phone... buy an iPod Touch or iPod Classic for your portable music needs.
if you're considering updating to a smart phone, would it be possible to wait until June or July for the next iPhone? No sense in buying an iPhone right now, when they're gonna upgrade in three months...(unless, of course, newer technology doesn't mean much to you)
But if you need something immediately, I'd still go with an iPhone over an Android phone. But that's me; I fully admit I'm biased. I love my iPhone.

I have a 160gb iPod classic and it's magnificent. I can keep half of my library on it, and when I carry this and the portable speaker I mentioned earlier, I can listen to anything, anytime, and loud.

This topic is going to be skewed because I imagine most people have never owned a zune but since you're still considering getting one I would guess you liked the one you had? I've had two zunes now and prefer them to ipods so I would suggest the zune HD. It might be just that I hate Itunes but I really have had a better experience with my zune than I have with Ipods.

I am increasingly convinced that PG was scouting this board for months before he started posting. And I remain grateful for it.

I have a Zune and it is fucking AWESOME (because I won it at Sasquatch for being awesome myself, and because it has Sasquatch Music Festival 2008 engraved on the back). Zune software is better, you don't have to deal as much with proprietary software and planned obsolescence, and they're cheaper.
That said, I use a 160gb iPod because it looks cooler and has 20x the storage capacity of the Zune.

I bought a 80G Zune and I've had it for probably 4 years. It's pretty durable. I have that thing full, and have to remove music to add more. I think I could make something with less storage work, but I like having so much music even if it seems a little excessive. I am finding many compatibility issues. I bought a deck for my car with a USB port, and it doesn't work with my Zune, but will work great with an iPod. I have resorted to using flash drives to listen to music in my car.
As far as the whole smart phone thing. I just want my phone to be a phone. I don't think being able to check my email or facebook at any given second justifies the price of having the web access. Wifi is all over the place so I am happy using my laptop when I can.

I purchased a Zune when they first came out but it wasn't compatible with Windows XP so I took that piece of shit back and have been a happy ipod customer ever since.

I have also owned a zune. It gave me issues. I sold it.
Also, as someone working in the cellular industry, I would highly suggest you do A LOT of research on the Android phones if you're going to go that route. The OS may be superior to iPhone (I don't think so) but there are shitloads of crappy phones out there running Android OS, begging for your money. In many cases you will be disappointed.

Oh yeah because we kicked ass at Rock Band. /brag

THREE of us were so awesome that we were able to compensate for a random, dumpy fifteen year old kid who couldn't go past the novice setting on bass and we STILL won Zunes.

Damnit. Maybe we should've tried to win BEFORE our party favors...

No, not anymore. I'm pretty sure it was only that one year, in '08. We've gone back for the last two years trying to win another Zune but they weren't doing it in '09 or '10.

Even if they were still doing it, though, none of you assholes would stand a chance at winning.
