At work I use Sennheiser HD-280s to drown out the loud salespeople nearby. Have had them for a few years and, for my money they're some of the best sounding closed-back headphones you can buy (notice I said closed-back, before you flame me). I also use them at home as monitor phones when I do recording (spoken word stuff).
For chilling at home I have a surround setup in the living room - speakers are inexpensive Energy speakers that sound pretty decent, the sub is cheap but gets the job done, and after my last receiver died (it had a good life), I replaced it with a decent-sounding Denon receiver. Nothing fancy but it works just fine, and is loud enough to piss off the neighbours if it needs to be.
The Sumiko Pro-Ject Debut III. I want to buy it and eat it.
I loved this turntable. Unfortunately I do not own one, but the record store I frequent most often uses these (they sell them as well). Anyways they sound amazing.
As for myself, I have a Crosley record player I got about 4 years ago, it works well for what I need now, and doesn't take up too much space.
In December at a white elephant party for work I received a Pioneer PL-300. It's kind of crazy the girl who put it as a white elephant purchased it at an antique store. She told me she couldn't find speakers for it ( I don't think she realized you had to have a pre-amp). Anyways this white elephant was just things you had a home to which I contributed a white elephant I once received from a white elephant. I'd say I got pretty lucky.
I don't have my own setup for it yet, but I've taken it to my friends house to test it out, and it works great. I just want to save the money up to get something decent, and than perhaps eventually I'll buy a project turntable.

StickDr. Garbanzoures, I'm guessing the record store you frequent is Slowtrain? I hear they just got authorized as a licensed Pro-Ject dealer; good for them! As it happens (weird coincidence), I'm listening to the very first release from Slowtrain Records on that fancy new Pro-Ject at this very moment; Alexis Gideon's Video Musics II: Sun Wu-Kong.
We worked with a truly useless turntable for years; something that got handed down from somewhere, and was initially found dumpster-diving. We held off on buying a new turntable until we could get the one we wanted and it was totally worth the wait.

Yes, I do frequent Slowtrain quite often, and Alexis Gideon's album is amazing.
I'm glad Slowtrain has done so well for themselves. They really do a great job. Last week I asked if they had a record in stock yet. They said they had ordered it and would give me a call when it came in. They called me today, and not only did they let me know the album had arrived, but they set one aside (which I didn't ask them to do). I wish I could be there for there RSD. They started allowing people to build a credit to use on record store day back in Feb. Instead I have to settle for one of the Zia Records in Las Vegas.
Yeah, I plan on saving up for better things, even if I have to buy each a little at a time. Since I have this pioneer turntable, it will probably be awhile until I purchase a new one.

For what it's worth. Get a Technics 1200. They are built like tanks. I used to DJ for a long time and those turntables will last a professional DJ a lifetime, so if it's for casual listening you are set. They have a remarkable resale value. Get a good needle for the turntable. I would recommend an Ortofon or if you're looking for something less expensive, but reliable; a Shure M44-7 needle is what I used and they lasted me more than any other needle out there.
Thought it'd be interesting to see how you all listen to your music. What's your speaker set up like? I have Swan M200MkII speakers with a Music Fidelity dac. Just got these speakers a few months ago and I gotta say, they're much better than any computer/multimedia speakers I've had in the past even though they don't have a sub. I'll try to upload a pic later.
