My favorite type of potatoes are twice baked. My favorite type of eggs are devilled. I do not think this is a coincidence.

For those of you in Calgary, I just got back from my first Alley Burger experience and let me tell you...THIS BURGER IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS. A double dose of organic sausage, Quebec cheese curds and a Piri Piri mayo. Well worth the 1.5 hour long wait. Plus they were filming today for an episode of Eat St., so I may end up being on the show.
Other than this, the only other food truck lunch I had was at Blam-Wich and I had the Bacon Storm. Canadian Back Bacon, Applewood Smoked Bacon and Bacon Mayonaise. Yum.

Every time I see the food trucks, I'm either a) not hungry or b) the lines are ginormous. So I have yet to indulge.

I started feeling sick the other day so I made a pot of chicken soup from scratch. The sickness has been thwarted.

Awesome sickness cure. I don't know if it's the hovering over a pot of steam, the garlic or the placebo effect but it does always make you feel so much better. I also like to cut up a bunch of ginger and boil it for a while, then add lemon juice, cayenne, honey and echinacea to the pot. I find if I do that within the first couple days of feeling sick I can usually keep the worst at bay. The worst is when your significant other is dying of sickness, and you just know you're three days behind them. "Oh, you're seriously coughing blood! Thanks."

So I've been making muddy buddies like chex was going out of business for the last week, and I'm trying to figure out some variations. Any suggestions?
Also, if you want to find out what Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs taste like, I highly suggest Muddy Buddies cereal. It is amazing, and you've never had milk so good.

I made 24 jars of pickled carrots/asparagus/cauliflower last week. Some spicy, some plain, some with honey and black pepper, some with a little ginger & sesame seed, one with horseradish, and one with lemongrass.
So far the honey & black pepper ones and the plain ones are dynamite.
You just can't do this type of thing in the summer. It's definitely a fall/winter activity.

The honey and black pepper ones sound insane. We just do regular dill and garlic, but I will try to talk my wife into another flavour next year.

Almost all of them were done with dill & garlic (all except the ginger ones actually). Honey & black pepper pickled garlic is pretty intense. I just like to throw random whatever in the mix and see how it turns out.
I experimented with peppercorns this year. Think I'll be going back to just regular ground pepper. It sticks to the carrots and really adds some kick. Get the good dustless stuff though, or your brine will be cloudy and gross.
I'm really looking forward to the horseradish ones. Will report back.

It's so easy to do.
I mean peeling and chopping is a pain in the ass, and your house stinks like vinegar for a few hours after, but it's so worth it.

Mmm...went for dinner last night at my buddy's burger joint and had this: The Croquette Burger: Halibut and Salmon cake, with house-made tartar sauce, arugula and red onion. So good! Kind of like spicy crab cake only with awesome fishiness.

So my girlfriend is out of town, and this is the kind of evil I get up to when left alone by myself. The Sangrinator Ribeye steak that was pan seared in butter, rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper. Thinly sliced and placed on a toasted baguette with spicy chipotle mayo. Covered with a cheese sauce made from milk, butter, quinoa flour, triple cream brie, St. Auger blue cheese, tete de moine, and cheddar. Topped with mushrooms that were sautéed in the beef drippings and then steeped in beef broth and thyme to make an au jus. I ate half and was physically unable to remove myself from the couch for a good 2 hours.

The next day I felt I should attempt something healthy after that beast of a sandwich. Tuna and EdaNOMe Salad Seared ahi tuna marinated in ginger, soya sauce and agave syrup. Topped with sesame seeds and a glaze made from mandarins, honey pomelo, lime, red pepper, chili flakes, and peppercorns. Then coarse Hawaiian alea salt and sesame seeds sprinkled on top. Served with baby leaf lettuce, mandarin oranges and edamame beans. Tossed in an asian vinaigrette made with extra virgin olive oil, rice wine vinegar, salt, cracked pepper, roasted garlic and honey. Yes I know I overcooked the tuna. It was dark ouside and I couldnt really see the color of the tuna with it marinated. Chef fail....
