I don't think the Lips are billed as a headliner, but they basically are I suppose. It'll be interesting to see if they have a different slot than other subheads. That's another thing I was going to mention is that AZ doesn't seem to care about the traditional festival expectations, in the sense that he's started this streak of non-traditional headliners and double-headliners, which is unique for a festival as big as Sasquatch. My girlfriend mentioned to me the other day that having the Flaming Lips play The Soft Bulletin "and more" may mean they get an extended set. She also noted that the mainstage is short a band for that day. Is it possible that slot doesn't get filled and the Lips give us a 2 or 2 and a half hour performance? This would blow my fucking mind. It's probably going to be The Soft Bulletin ending with Do You Realize? or something.

Since I've been to quite a few festivals I have learned to remember a couple things when the lineup comes out:
1) It is a music festival. It will be so much fun. Way so much more fun than a normal weekend 2) What's special? SOFT BULLETIN (and fucking more!)! 3) If you see at least two bands you love a day, it a fucking great day! Check (omit Friday) 4) Anyone you've always wanted to see? Guided By Voices. 5) Who can I just lose my mind to one night? Bassnectar? Okay! Good bye mind. 6) Is it worth my monies? Where do I pay! 7) Is security trained to poke no further than the first shirt in your bag? Yes. Perfect.
I can't wait, is how I feel now.

When the lineup first dropped I was a little disappointed at the lack of any big surprises, but now that I've had time to digest I'm generally pretty excited about it. Bassnectar was a huge get since Hangout is really close in proximity and I didn't imagine they'd fly him over, so that's pretty rad. Also have never seen Foo's, Death Cab, or Wilco before, but I do like their music, so that should be fun. Don't care for Bright Eyes. Never heard anything by the Flaming Lips (which I should probably amend) but I hear that they're great live. Stoke for Ratatat, Major Lazer, Skrillex, Iron & Wine, Das Racist, Chromeo, and Surfer Blood. I'll See Local Natives again if I get the chance. Also willing to Give Best Coast a chance even though I'm not huge about them. I saw Flogging Molly a couple of years ago at Warped and they were great, excited about them and Against Me! Also excited about DFA1979 and MSTRKRFT.
So yeah, overall I expect to have another great weekend. I'm just hoping the comedy lineup gets bolstered a little. The only name that really caught my eye was Trailer Park Boys. On last.fm, Sasquatch and Coachella were rated the top festivals for me in terms of % compatibility, with Coachella only being ahead by 4% (88 to 84).

Ok since everyone here is in love with the lineup I'll give a dissenting opinion. First off the lineup being lackluster isn't really that big of a deal because it's sasquatch and it'd be fun no matter what. I'm sure I will have a great time and there are plenty of acts I want to see but it's the first year nothing really seems like a must see for me. Mostly I guess this is just from the fact that I've seen so many of the acts on the bill before (and many of them multiple times...). I'm honestly looking at the Saturday lineup and having a hard time justifying a ticket.
I'll end up there regardless but this is the first year I just can't seem to get excited about the lineup.

For one time we agree Cbat, I was underwhelmed with the initial lineup, after a couple of days, i am still underwhelmed. The undercard although has some Really nice names, isn't as strong as previous years. For example, I like flogging Molly, but I 've seem them at smaller venues and it looks like they are playing at the same time LCD Sound system did last year.
It just seems that the lineup lacks any imagination.
So let's call it what it is, It's a chance to make Big money. Raising the ticket Prices for the "extra Day" and really not booking an extra day's worth of acts( I know more are to be added on Friday, but they will be smaller acts that are not going to justify the price increase.).
Sasquatch know they have a festival that is going to sell, so what is going to motivate them to bring in acts like they did in the past?
I Bought tickets a month ago expecting the lineup to be stellar, I am Actually considering skipping it for the first time in 6 years.

It's a good lineup; it's not a great lineup. My initial reaction was something close to furious, but I couldn't see past the headliners; Modest Mouse and DCFC are sub-headliners. Wilco and Foo Fighters (I guess) are great headliners, objectively, but MM and DCFC kind of make AZ look bad. Then I realized - these might not be the Holy Shit! headliners that our 10th Anniversary SHOULD have had, but whatever: I prefer them to the headliners from three out of four of the previous years' Sasquatches (no Ben Harper, no KoL, no fucking Beasties, no Ben Harper AGAIN, no MMJ [sorry, boring]). And I definitely prefer them to any of the other major festivals' headliners (fuck Arcade Fire so hard).
I wanted Pixies real REAL bad, and I feel like they were unfairly teased even outside this board. That was a massive disappointment, but Squatch threw me a left hook with 'The Soft Bulletin'. That's EVEN BETTER. That's more exciting than most things I could reasonably hope for out of any year's lineup.
I remain pretty irritated with the bulk of the undercards. I've said it before: this year is way more about Pitchfork hipster shit than about us geeks like it's been in the past. Where's the equivalent of Crudo? What's the fucking deal with GBV's set time? We're picking up acts like Skrillex and Robyn at the expense of acts like Bon Iver and Dirty Projectors.
Why? Because four days, which frankly sounds exhausting. AZ spent the entire festival budget on the Foo Fighters, apparently, and in general the talent is spread way too thin. More than half the lineup consists of snot-nosed blog bands, because the Northwest fucking loves snot-nosed blog bands and they're fucking cheap, a dime a dozen. The result is that I'm going to spend way more time researching this year.
There's about the same number of bands playing this year as I want to see any given year; they're just in isolated clumps (fucking schedule) over the course of a LOOOOOONG weekend. Bassnectar looks like a fuckin riot; so the obligatory party on the lawn is covered, thank god.
Basically I just don't see the point in bitching about it. They'll never top the quality of the lineup in '10; they'll probably never match the awesomeness of the headliners in '08. Maybe they will. It's still going to be the best fucking weekend; I'm going to meet so many new people and drink so many of beers, some of them first thing in the morning, I'm going to hang out at the Gorge for three days and then on the fourth day when they usually make me go home I'm gonna fucking STAY there and keep on partying for another day. The fucking Flaming Lips will be there - they should be there every fucking year, the Flaming Lips pretty much embody Sasquatch. All YOU people will be there, and I fucking love you guys. It's going to be out of control; it's going to be the best Sasquatch ever. I'm sure of it.
[edit: totally biffed the placement of two apostrophes in that post; they're fixed]

I agree that it will be exhausting but I feel like I can just kind of chill a little more instead of moving at such break neck speeds the whole time.

That true HG, I do Agree with some of the things you mentioned, and it's always going to be a good time. And even though Flaming lips , GBV, Wolfparade are going to awesome.
I am just to justify the 20 hour drive and the 4 days I have to take off work.
But i do have tickets now, and I can take a couple of months to get excited and decide.

Don't miss Sasquatch dude, Sasquatch comes but once a year. It's not like Disneyland when you can just go there any old time. If you don't go, some awesome thing is going to happen and we'll all be talking about it forever and you'll be all, 'Awwwww, the ONE year I decide not to go...'

Unsurprisingly HG summed up my thoughts way better than I ever could. It's definitely not a bad lineup at all, it just doesn't have anything that grabs me. It's still going to be a ton of fun and I'm going to see a ton of great music but it's just a fairly underwhelming lineup. I'm not going to spend a ton of time bitching about it or anything but since you asked that's how I feel about it

Fer realz Plus, how can anyone justify missing 25,000 people screaming WRONG KID DIED? I'm hoping that you guys are such Iron and Wine fans that you will decide to go watch Iron and Wine instead of chant something that makes no sense during my favorite band. Show a little respect for your ole pal Switch would you?

By the way, HG I think your post a few posts back really sums up the festival this year (I didn't want to quote it because it was so long). Its almost exactly how I feel except for maybe I'm a little more excited about Modest Mouse than you are. Otherwise I think you summed it up.
