I'm really REALLY excited about the Lips, Wilco, Old 97's, Ratatat, GBV, Sleigh Bells, Major Lazer and Black Mountain.
Judging by recent setlists, I anticipate being really frustrated by the Decemberists, but we go back so I'll still check 'em out. And I'd love to see one more decent Modest Mouse show before I die; I've seen one transcendent one and three godawful ones.
Almost all of the undercards are sub-par EDM acts and Pitchfork bullshit; I can't get excited about any of them, really, although I plan on doing my homework and seeing what's good. Problem with this year's lineup is it caters way more to bloghawks than to music dweebs like myself, so we'll see what we see I guess.

Only children and ignoramuses don't know who Guided By Voices are. Given how heavily they target casual radio listeners, the latter. Half the people who show up aren't gonna know bands that aren't played on The End (or whatever ClearChannel/Entercom station they have)

There were at least 15 times when I thought about posting, "Am I the only one who thinks Horned Gramma will hate this lineup?" Ween and They Might Be Giants doesn't happen very often. Last year's lineup was amazing.
But I know you still have the vibe. You might even like some shit you've never heard. I'll go on record saying Bassnectar will blow your mind.

On another news...what the fuck is Titus Andronicus doing touring with Bright Eyes?! not a clue, but if it at all increases the possibility of them being a late addition I'm all for it.

what i've noticed is that this lineup is super shoegaze heavy this year. (sorry if this has been covered several times by others on the board) And while I enjoy some shoegaze, the genre doesn't strike me as an enjoyable live experience. we'll see.

They'll never top last year's lineup.

Is Pink Martini this year's Seattle Rock Orchestra? And if so, why are they on the Sasquatch stage? And if not, why are they even on the lineup?

I think this lineup would be a lot different if Primavera didn't exist. Looking at that lineup again, I really think Sasquatch is suffering because Primavera has become one of the best festivals in the world.

I gotta be completely honest, there's only about five bands that I'm really missing from Primavera that aren't on Sasquatch - everyone else I've seen recently or will see in the near future (then again, maybe I just don't like the cool music, who knows)

Pink Martini is huge. Among total squares, but huge just the same. They consistently sell out two and three night stands in Portland. They are amazing musicians and they will probably sound incredible.
If they do their cover of 'Brazil' it will be worth having them there.

Off the top of my head...Pulp, AC, Walkmen, PJ Harvey, Sufjan, Ariel Pink, Belle and Sebastian, Simian Mobile Disco, Fleet Foxes, DJ Shadow, Grinderman...list goes on. Primavera is pretty much the perfect festival lineup in my eyes, and it's been that way for three or four years now. I honestly think Zacks should buy a jet and just shuffle some dudes across the pond.

as for Guided by Voices, im pretty sure they're not as well known to the masses as you think and therefore get the lower billing. you're missing our point. We don't want them billed all the way up at the top of the mainstage because you're right, a lot of people don't know who they are or care. What we want is them playing later on the wookie (which is a comparable spot to where they are now) so that they can play a long set to a couple thousand dedicated fans. I saw them a couple months ago and they played over 2 hours and that wasn't nearly long enough.

I don't like Animal Collective, I've seen Fleet Foxes a ton, and I'm really not into DJ Shadow.
