Calgary radio station X92.9 is announcing the lineup for their "X-Fest" tomorrow. There were a few decent bands playing last year but I didn't go. I went in 2011 because I won tickets and it was a pretty good time.
It's the same weekend as Bumbershoot so there's the possibility that a couple bands that are playing there show up.

You don't think there will be bigger headliners now that they are going with the bigger main stage? I'm pretty sure Memorial Stadium actually has the same capacity as Key Arena.

Sonic Boom Festival in Edmonton is the same weekend as X-Fest in Calgary and they share the same lineup. Doing some poking around on the Sonic Boom website and I uncovered:
Jack White Death Cab for Cutie Arctic Monkeys Foster the People (meh) Tegan and Sara Cage the Elephant (meh) New Pornographers
Might actually have to go.

That would be a serious improvement from previous x-fests.

Agreed!
I think out of all the previous ones combined I would see about ~5 bands. This one alone has at least 5.

Sonic Boom is the same, except one day longer so they have more bands. Including the motherfucking Descendents and the New Pornographers.

Yeah XFest doesn't have Rise Against, New Pornos and Descendents (AKA Friday night show.) That appears to be the difference between the two.
$200 for GA is steep for a festival with such a steep drop-off from headliner to basically local bands.

Yeah... Just realized they jacked up the ticket prices this year. Debating still.

The price is too steep for me. I'm only interested in seeing Jack White, and maybe Death Cab. I'll try to win tickets.

I was going to say that lineup is fantastic, but $200? For a local radio station festival?
The festival market has to be getting saturated by now. When tiny (but good) lineups like that cost what Sasquatch cost 5 years ago you really have to start asking some questions.
I wonder if any of those acts will make it over for Rifflandia.

Can't help but read "Jack Arctic & the White Monkeys" which is a pretty good name for a band to be honest.

Full Sled Island lineup tomorrow. They claim that the currently announced acts amount to only 30% of the total.

The bulk of the lineup tomorrow will more than likely be the 150-200 local bands that are playing. I'm still very curious to see the remainder though.

So Sonic Boom is in Edmonton August 29-31, X-Fest is in Calgary August 30-31, and Bumbershoot is in Seattle August 30-September 1. I wonder if Bumbershoot will get any of the previous two festivals' artists. Not Death Cab since they headlined last year (Tegan and Sara also played last year), but some of the other would still be cool, especially Jack White.
