I've seen pretty much every single other kind of weather at the gorge and I have felt the wrath of God through giant hail, but I have never seen anything quite like this. We sat and watched the gorge burn while Phish tore it up on stage. Wonk was able to get some good shots.

True. After the '06 hail, the '09 heat, the winds of '11 and that funky-dunky fog on the last night of '13, I thought the Gorge had run out of options when it came to weird shit happening in the sky. The pictures can't do it justice; the Phish Phire was really something else.

Driving to the Gorge from Portland, highway 97 was closed due to a forest fire. It took us about 90 miles out of our way, and driving into Yakima from the east late Thursday night the sky was black with smoke. Two days later, the fire was still spreading and the smoke was visible from the hill. It made for the most unique Gorge sunset I've ever seen.
