When it comes right down to it, I look forward to Girls every week and don't personally have anything against her. However, I'm going to play Devil's Advocate for a moment here. Lena Dunham is currently being hailed as the "voice of a generation", "a rare literary talent", "a new face of the modern feminist movement" and so on. She's getting 3.5 million bucks to produce a 66 page book called Not That Kind of Girl: Advice by Lena Dunham (yes 66 pages, so like $56,000 a page). The book details everything she's learned in her compelling 26 years of life as a daughter of two very wealthy parents, born and raised in uptown New York City, who attended private school and "poetry camp", who grew up with bulters, maids, chofers and the like. Sounds like a life chalk-full of important lessons. Yes, Lena, please impart all of your invaluable wisdom. Good grief, this chick probably doesn't even know how to run a washing machine. So, does she make me laugh with her stark awkwardness and exploration of feminine insecurties? Yes, sure. Should she be spoken of in the same vein as Woody Allen? No, never. well said. |

At the beginning of his career, Woody made, like, Bananas and What's Up, Tiger Lily? and Sleeper and shit -- films that had greatness, but were not necessarily great. That's how I felt about Tiny Furniture, and it's how I feel about Girls. There are moments of real brilliance, surrounded on all sides by moments of really good-ness. It's true that people are too quick to hand out labels like 'the next Woody Allen' or 'the next Kurt Vonnegut' or 'the next Radiohead', but there are people who don't let that kind of absurdly hyperbolic praise hamstring their career, and I really believe that Lena Dunham is going to turn out to be one of those.

Girls was pretty stupid as well tonight. That episode had nothing to do with anything except for pointless naked Hanna sex with Nite Owl from Watchmen. Most self-indulgent episode of all time. |

AHHHH I'M SO MAD AT MYSELF (and Pea a little bit). I started watching Twin Peaks on Netflix last week and love it. I'm on Season 2 already. BUT THE ARTICLE THAT PEA PUT ON FACEBOOK JUST SPOILED THE WHOLE THING WITHOUT WARNING. WHAT THE FUCK ARTICLE??????
