My computer is now officially too old to load my email, download torrents or not fall apart in pieces when I open it up. I'm thinking I'm going to buy myself a new laptop for a moving present. What's a good cheap laptop?
I have been recommending Asus products lately. They have a pretty good track record as far as hardware, and you can get a pretty good Asus laptop with an amd processor for like $400. If you could just run Linux on it, you would be set as far as performance and longevity, but that's not always plausible.

When are SSDs going to become common and affordable? I've been holding off replacing my $500 HP with a cracked screen hoping that my next one could have an SSD. Doesn't look like it's going to be possible since it probably won't last much longer and I'm getting sick of using my TV as a monitor.
