It's work stuff. But it looks like we'll be moving at the beginning of May. One man's opinion of Austin: The downtown sixth street bar/music scene is off the hook. Downtown in general is really cool, but the outskirts of Austin pretty much fucking suck. If you aren't going to live downtown, I would recommend checking out South Congress. It's a pretty cool area with lots of restaurants and shops, yet it still only a 30 minute walk from downtown. Everything else around Austin I've witnessed sucks. I think Austin is overrated because Texas is such a terrible place, but it can't be worse than Atlanta, right? You should probably buy your ACL passes now. It's a pretty cool festival, and I believe they regularly sell out before the lineup is announced. This year they are doing the two weekend thing, so it might not sell out right away. If you have a couple bills to burn, you must experience the Tomahawk Ribeye at Eddie V's. It doesn't even have a price on the menu. "If you need to ask, you probably can't afford it." Also, Switch and hot wife live near there. Also, grow a mustache.

Thanks for your help! That was pretty useful. Unfortunately, now comes the irritating process of trying to fi.gure out which specific neighborhood to live in. Yay.

Thanks! It went OK. Being on speaker phone at home, I kept feeling like Ricky Bobby..."I'm not sure what to do with my hands". I kept hand talking, and then remember that I'm in a room by myself.

Thanks.
Shax: This interview was for Vancouver General.
I've applied to 6 others, including two in Alberta.

Nice. I was going to suggest the healthjobs website. Is one of them the south campus? That hospital is insane and I can't wait for it to full open.

Whenever I work I always have my ipod playing through the speakers with a mix of the most normal of my weird music. Most of the patrons who notice the music don't have anything nice to say about it, but everyone I work with seems to like it, so I don't care. It's always been my fantasy that someone (anyone really) recognizes the artists or songs and wants to talk to me about it.
Today, a guy came in and was so excited that I was playing Bjork. He said that his friend in Calgary helped build some of the set (or possibly instruments) for the Volta tour. I didn't have much time to talk to him, but he's at the pool a lot and he also knew Animal Collective, Baths, and Boards of Canada. I can't even explain how big of a deal this is for me. Most people that I interact with on a daily basis are exclusively country fans.

That's awesome. Sometimes at work (I usually work outside) I play music from my car if no one has a radio going and every now and then someone I work with actually knows what I'm playing and we nerd out about music for a while. I always enjoy being the slightly more knowledgeable music nerd in a conversation because round these parts I'm like a 4th grader talking to a bunch of PhD students about quantum physics.

Oh shit, Stamper and Cat are moving to Austin? Hell yeah. The outskirts aren't that great but downtown and the university area are pretty awesome. Check out the Spiderhouse when you get there. It's a great place to grab a beer!

Needless to say, he'll be denied - you can't get Ds in Spanish and get into college, no matter how much good music you listen to. But still a cool kid.

Last day of work before vacation. I can't concentrate on anything. All packed up and ready to roll. Flying to Mexico D.F. tomorrow morning. Spending 4 days there and then bussing to Guadalajara. Spending 3 days there and then bussing to Puerto Vallarta. Spending 3 days there and then flying home. If I am not on here 3/11 send a rescue party. Adios amigos!

So the best thing ever just happened to me.
I just found out that the prof at the school in Toronto I was interviewing at Monday is going to forward my name to be admitted to the program there. So if I want, I will start graduate studies in September and in 6-7 years have a masters and a PhD and be a friggen psychologist.
And then I also have a sort-of offer at the school in Montreal but I'll find out for sure on that one in a couple of weeks. So I may have the option of moving to Montreal OR Toronto to do exactly what I want to do and become exactly what I want to become.
