It still weirds me out that there's such a thing as the "Minneapolis music scene." I get it, I know it exists and it's actually pretty good, but it's just hard for my brain to accept.

Says the guy with a (faux) Prince avatar... Touché. Like I said, I know it's real and I dig the music, it's just mind bottling to me that such great music comes from a place like Minneapolis, Minnesota.

It doesn't make a lot of sense why Minneapolis is such a great music town...but it's true. Part of it is due to the fact that there is a public radio station that plays amazing music (89.3 the current). It's amazing, everyone stops by the 89.3 studio when they're in town. Smaller bands can play bigger venues because the Current will promote the shit out of their show for free. A band can become super popular simply because they are good, they don't need to be promoted by anyone. It's the only station of its kind and the collaboration with First Avenue has become a pretty big influence on indie music.

Its the only public radio station that has been a cornerstone of the local music scene? I certainly dont intend to take away from their accomplishments but to claim they're entirely unique in this regard is silly.

KEXP is awesome, very similar to the Current. They actually do stuff together sometimes because of they have such common listeners. I'm not the type of guy to say my music scene is the best...that's stupid. However, Minneapolis is right up there with Seattle/Portland, Austin, and Brooklyn. I realize that it snows in Minnesota , and you can't see the ocean, but the music is still awesome. It's not really a new thing. I can hardly think of a good band that hasn't listed the Replacements or Husker Du as a huge influence.

Was that like, what, 98? Mechanical Animals Manson and full-on strung-out 90's Courtney Hole? Well, yeah, obviously.

Powerman 5000 were just lucky enough to catch the tail end of the Nu-Metal craze before it evaporated. Also, the lead guy was Rob Zombies brother or something. Now they are at about the same level Orgy, and soon you'll see them crowdfunding to try to be relevant again.
