He was referring to gramma's comment, not THE STORMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM's.

They fucking lift a TMBG lyric in 'Paper Thin Walls'. Laugh hard, it's a long way to the bank. This is why I loved them in the first place.

That song is the best ringtone. Also, that song is inextricably connected to Neverending Math Equation for me- My friend who introduced me to them refused to listen to one without the other, even though they aren't on the same album!

However! What fucking demon caused 'Wild Packs of Family Dogs' to disappear from my iPod's rip of this album!?

Neverending Math Equation is my favorite Modest Mouse song.

NOT A WILD PACK OF FAMILY DOGS!
That was my ringtone for my sister for a while... She didn't really appreciate that once she listened to the song, haha.

So should I be taking credit for Stormy and Gramma's epiphony that Modest Mouse is great, or are I8 and Gramma making out via PM again?
I've seen Modest Mouse more than any other band live, and their last residency is Portland was outstanding. I have a couple other friends who thought one or two of those shows were their favorites of the year. I've seen some really bad Modest Mouse shows, but when Brock sobered up, their shows increased in bad-ass-ness.
Take it for what it's worth. "I saw them back when," is a tired argument for how good they are now.

Charlie Darwin is a fantastic album. Nice and mellow, perfect for my current mood.

I love that album. I was really bummed they didn't end up playing last year. I've been avoiding their new album for some reason though.

Charlie Darwin is a fantastic album. Nice and mellow, perfect for my current mood. Except "The Horizon Is A Beltway" and "Home I'll Never Be" are about as un-mellow as this band can be. It's a strange mix of mostly mellow, with crazy shouting/strumming.

Mellow with a hint of "Bone Machine" era Tom Waits. Vocally speaking, at least.

Mellow with a hint of "Bone Machine" era Tom Waits. Vocally speaking, at least. Yeah, on "The Horizon Is A Beltway," I get the Tom Waits vocal style. The weird thing is if you listen to that song, "To Ohio" and "Charlie Darwin," there's no way you would guess that is the same guy singing all three?

And that is what makes them a good band...variety. I have yet to see them but would like the chance. They mat come my way again for the Calgary Folk Fest. I think they played last year but the rest of the lineup was grim.

In fact I bought their album under the presumption that the entire thing would have a "Charlie Darwin" or "To Ohio" vibe. Needless to say it took a few listens before I could appreciate the surprise that was in store for me.
